Has anyone tried to polish the side of a alps slider ? To get rid of any roughness or scratchiness that results form wear ?

Re: Looking for desoldering advice for MX LED switches

Honestly , if your doing keyboard work even semi regularly you want a proper air pump or compressor operated desoldering station. I have an ancient weller system that i use and its pritty good altho the hand piece has had its day and needs fixing. In an ideal world you would go for something like th...

Re: Does anyone have an old Alps Chassis?

I have some z150's (which is the AT layout) and aek ii's (and other older apple keyboards), magnavox video writer (basically hhkb layout), and one dell at101, and one sgi Bigfoot (basically an at101) Interested? You don't happen to have the case of that SGI do you ? If so is it in good condition ? ...

Re: Retrobrighting keycaps when it's cold and dark outside

Celsius obviously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody in their right mind uses Fahrenheit (whatever that is!!!!!!!!!!). People also insist on using middle endian dates! 1st of June 2020 is ether 01/06/2020 or 2020/06/01, what the hell is 06/01/2020 who came up with that insanity? But then again , people also ins...

Re: What should green alps feel like?

Not a huge amount you can do if the switches are worn . If they are dirty you can clean them. Follow the guide on a few switches and see if it improves things .

An ultrasonic is a bit drastic at this point , dust a few switches out first and see how you get on.

Re: What should green alps feel like?

They should not feel scratchy or sound scratchy. They feel less ..... floaty than linearised blacks ( as in you can feel the slider unlike lmod blacks that feel like they are in mid air ), they should be buttery smooth. Check out this fantastic guide to see if you can restore them https://www.youtub...

Re: 65% Model F – Open Group Build

USB PD is a separate spec than the speed rating ( 1.1 2.0 3.0 etc) but i highly doubt any USB 2.0 rated stuff will be in spec for PD. official spec for 2.0 rated stuff is 500mA but i think you could prob get away with an 1A at a push.

Re: December Shocker: Mu Votes Cherry!

I think you are underestimating the current power and the speed of the path, but in any case, now you're arguing short term. In the long term, if the UK is a beast now, the EU will become that beast but bigger, as the path is clearly unfolding. So your choice is this: Do you want to be ruled by Eng...

Re: December Shocker: Mu Votes Cherry!

Let’s just put it this way: what would you in England have felt if the EU said no, you couldn’t have a referendum? You had your indy' ref, you lost . I am mostly just disappointed with the UK. By leaving, they are abandoning the issues that UK's EU-parliamentarians had stood for, making some issues...

Re: December Shocker: Mu Votes Cherry!

It's not a contradiction to believe one political union is more aligned with your interests or has more to offer than another. But i just don't see how a so called "nationalist" party can want to give its power and independence away, it is a contradiction. If the SNP wanted Scotland to be independe...

Re: December Shocker: Mu Votes Cherry!

Do you see nothing contradictory between wanting to remain in the EU(you wont be able to remain in it , you will have to apply , and spain WILL veto you till the cows come home) but wanting to leave the UK? Both are a political union, both will take power and your status as a nation away. Both a "pe...

I can't see myself paying over $300 for a TKL, not even a Topre (which, moreover, can't take my MX-stemmed keycaps). My Realforce RGB boards were a much better value. Does the realforce RGB take MX caps ? Sadly my poor novatouch is on its last legs ... usb keeps disconnecting will have to hard wire...

I just wanted to thank all who donated something to keep the shack going. It's actually reinvigorating to see that so many people are so invested in our little website.

Oh well then, we'll be on the scene for at least another 2 years :)

okay so, I believe the best course of action for a low-fi DTA 2019 is as follow: 1) Start with just one nomination thread (as per Muirium suggestion). Let people vomit their nominations, at the end check what we have and based on that create the categories. This is the most community driven DTA I c...

wondering how the top surface is so smooth being 3d printed... non-planar extrusion or just very very thin layers?
prob acetone vapour smoothing. OR just simple sanding and painting.
