Re: Dozens of IBM bigfoot beam spring keyboards have been discovered in the second-hand market of Taobao.
I clicked the link and stumbled upon a silver label Model M page and found the English translation amusing: IBM Model M Keyboard 1390131 Metal Label The M! It was produced on September 25, 1987. The boss said that you must have a metal label when you collect Model M. Don't buy anything strange. Then...

Here is a great original IBM 4700 system guide book linked to by sharktastica on another thread: https://bitsavers.org/pdf/ibm/4700/GC31-2018-3_Finance_Communication_System_Installation_Planning_upd198311.pdf It includes some photos and expected specifications of the keyboards. Re: [WTB] [US] SKCM NEON GREEN ALPS
You made the right decision not bidding, that board was sold by a known scammer who was hiding the fact that it had brown alps to make people bid higher in case it was neons. Just curious what you meant by it having browns. Are all the keys brown and he put in a green alps to make people think it h...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds
Thanks for the info Shark! I've always liked the early Model Ms with the colorful back plates. Not sure if that greatly impacts the experience, but it looks cool. My oldest is from 1988 that I turned into an industrial when Unicomp still sold IBM NOS cases. For the money that's good enough for me :)...

Now up to $760. Besides the color is there anything else that differentiates this from a normal Model M?

Re: New Model M vs Old IBM Model M
I’d love to see Unicomp expand their product line. Their focus has always been value and I’m not sure how the Model F would fit into that, but a Model F version of their products with a small price hike would be awesome. I bet there would also be demand for HHKB and 60% versions of their products. M...

Re: New Model M vs Old IBM Model M
I’ve wondered if the reason the older Ms feel nicer is due to years of use, loosening up the tension in the springs. Samir, was your 1-2% difference for just new keyboards or all types?

Shift Happens Book
Thought I’d share this interesting book:

I ordered it on kickstarter and am looking forward to getting it later this year. It seems to cover everything keyboard with a lot of vintage stuff. Sadly I failed at most of the 10 trivia questions

Great guide and beautiful pics. I hope to make it to Italy. I’ve done the same mod and noticed the enter key didn’t need the wire stabilizer, but I like your washer method and might give it a shot.

If I had to pick one badge it would be the black because it had a similar contrast to the original IBM.
I’m curious what the possibility of an LCD badge would be? Would it be too custom and too expensive to be practical?

That sounds awesome! I could see it being a novelty but I like that kind of stuff. I’m starting to see why people like RGB keyboards.
