They're probably testing the waters. Not too many keyboard making services in Europe (they're using laserboost.com in turn), so I wish them luck :)

Re: Genius idea of the day

[Un]Genius Idea of the day… What's the WPM record for chording keyboards, I wonder? They're a bitch to learn, too, but at least have the potential to be ludicrously fast. I understand it can be as low as 25-35 WPM, but if you add stenography techniques (mapping combos to words for example) you can ...

Re: Genius idea of the day

Cool! :D

Also, I take it back the Morse typing would be slow - if one touch-types, he/she can type 10 times faster, writing 10 slow different phrases at once (one per finger). If all of the inner voices agree ...

Re: [Newbie] Want to create a DIY ortholinear mechanical keyboard

Maybe an "Arduino Micro" (not Pro) could do the job, you'd be at the limit (it has 20 digital i/o pins) if all those pins can be used:

I know it was a joke. Just this topic is fascinating to me, because communication using morse is actually pretty amazing stuff. All is forgiven though. You have "emacs -nw" under avatar. Re: Genius idea of the day

Lets make a deal. You create a firmware with built in decoder sufficient enough to translate morse code without perfect timing (no operator I know can keep constant perfect spacing between dots, dashes and words). And I make a video using such device in practice. Jokes aside. The issue is more compl...

Re: Genius idea of the day

Yeah, I’d love to know how Hasu does it in those wee USB-USB converters of his. Or even better, I’d love him to make a Bluetooth version so we can all get aboard! Well, he says it in his USB2USB converter thread: "You need USB host controller chip MAX3421e and AVR chip ATMega32U4." So he made his o...

Have you done all that usb host shield stuff yourself? I looked into it a little when I first thought of Bluetoothing my Realforce, which is usb only. Host shields seem to be bigger than teensies!
Nope, that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid :)

Re: Genius idea of the day

@Myoth - Yes, a bit unrelated, if I remember well the AT cable has a DIN5 jack, which has actually the same pins as a PS/2 jack (same pins, same protocol, different jack). The idea in the post above is to avoid using attaching a "USB host shield" to a Pro Micro and rely on the internal keyboard PS/2...

Re: Genius idea of the day

If your USB keyboard supports the PS2 protocol (with a passive PS2toUSB adapter), you can make it fully programmable using Hasu's PS2toUSB converter, much cheaper than buying/making (also Hasu's) USBtoUSB adapter. In the end, your keyboard still hooks using USB, but it's now fully programmable, and ...

@vometia, if you'd describe your 'perfect' Alps keyboard (size, layout, switch type), maybe you'd get either some offers, or some help in building one, or some pointers in getting such a keyboard.

It's an interesting idea, treating the board as "split" to cram all the other important keys to the middle; but personally I couldn't use that layout.

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!

Thanks! @matt3o :) It's the lesser evil in this case, the only "sane" solution to have both arrows and a non-swearable right shift in a 60% format.

The nice thing is, as you know it, with QMK I can make that right shift a dual-role key and still have "?/" there :) (EDIT: done and works wonderfully)
