Kaihl spring weight and tactility
The best switch I have ever tried, tactility wise, is the Kaihl Navy Speed. However it's very impractical as the springs are so stiff that my hands get too tired when I type on it after 15 minutes. And I was just using it on the space-bar! I want to swap the spring out with something lighter (while ...

Re: keyboard selection help
Are there even any modern switches that AREN'T made in China? It seems like all of the mx clones come from there...Gateron, Oetemu, etc. At one time I thought that Kaihl was from Tawain and then I found it it was from China.

Re: Keychron C1 vs K2??
I've got the Keychron C1. I bought it to try different switches since it's hot swappable. If you're buying it for that reason, the C1 will suffice. But if you are buying it for having a qaulity board, I would just get the k2. I was in a similar dilemma when deciding to stick to Niz or try Topre. Yea...

Re: HHKB's you've tried
87U is a timeless look. Those R2s are going to look older, sooner than the originals, I think. Much like a bondai blue iMac looks now compared to a Snow White design language , classic Mac. Neither one is modern, but they wear their ages very differently. I love the Ivory R2 I got but don't want it...

I have been thinking about saving for another HHKB, even if I have to get it secondhand. I am super curious about the classic and the Pros.

I see Unicomp still makes the PC 122 and with USB or PS2. That's basically a modern day battleship Model M.

HHKB's you've tried
Which one of the HHKB's would you say are the best out of the ones you've tried. Classic, Pro, Pro 2? I've only tried the Hybrid Type S. It's very light, compact, and the switches have a soft rounded tactility with a plush feeling bottoming out. It doesn't feel as harsh on my fingers as the Realforc...

Re: DIY Dye Sub PBT keycaps tips?
Cool. I'll just have to experiment a bit. I need to get some test sheets to figure out what the right force/time is. Has anybody ever tried to paint their key-caps with something that won't wear off too fast? I've read people who have spray painted legends on theirs and that they wear off quickly. I...

Re: Nopre Electro-Capacitive Switches: A Good Topre Alternative? (Niz Plum/Abko)
Is there anyone who has tried the Leopold FC660C and the HHKB JP?
I've heard some of the comparisons people have made to the Leopold and the HHKB, but never the HHKB JP. I'm curious how much of a difference the change in layout would make along with build quality, key feel, etc.

Re: Topre 55g first impressions from an alps user
I got a 55g Realforce R2 recently and for me they are a little stiff, but have good tactility. The keyboard with 45g silent switches are near perfect and I could see myself taking it to work as my daily driver, unlike some of the other keyboards in my collect due to noise. Welcome to Topre!!! Re: DIY Dye Sub PBT keycaps tips?
One of the subs was for replacing the crooked menu icon on my New Model M. These were made for a pearl button instead of the gray first and fore mostly. But I think it could still work. It might be a good guinea pig.

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
I am really fine with the original case that Ellipse posted. Yeah, some subtle improvements wouldn't hurt, like how the lip could be a bit rounder and maybe more of a slant from back to front, but it's pretty much right there for me. I have decided for my final suggestion: Case Design: Ellipse's pos...

Re: New Model M vs Model F Repro
I wanted to compare these two as part of comparing the latest and greatest versions of the Model F to to the Model M. People make comparisons between these two as to who's the better buckling spring. I've asked how the New Model M compares to the old, and I also asked about how the Mini M compared to the New Model M before that. And it sounded like it was a pretty apples-to-oranges comparison. I recently got a Realforce R2 with Topre 45g silent switches, and I have to say that when I take a keyboard to work...this is it. Another big reason for that is it's got a standard ANSI layout in case anybody else needs to type on it and with no learning curve like the HHKB's layout (Otherwise, I'd ...

Re: Monitors and eye sight
I am basically a Windows/Linux guy. So yeah, PC. What about curved monitors? Is the PPI you need still calculated the same way? So the Windows/Linux camp use lower resolution, which is why it's ok to go with the lower PPI around 100? That goes back to the difference between Retina vs non-Retina disp...

DAMN! It seems like when I think I've found a winner something sucks.
Found a monitor that's over 180 PPI? Great!
Oh, wait...It only has 60Hz refresh rate.

Re: Keyboard suggestion for Model F, but quieter.
I would say two good options as far as modern boards that are relatively quiet would be Niz or Topre ones. You would need to keep in mind they can get a bit pricey, especially Topre. But if you can buy Ellipse’s Model F 77 repro, I am assuming you are willing to spend a little extra on a good keyboa...

Re: Ortholinear vs Standard
If you’re going to bother with learning a new layout—and ortho is definitely a different physical layout—you might as well learn a real ergonomic design which bears some resemblance to the actual shape of your hands. Ortho isn’t ergonomic. It’s just also different. Thanks for clearing that up! I've...

Re: Monitors and eye sight
Ha! You're right to expect there would be more choice today than there was 5, 6, 7 years ago, but you would in fact be wrong. Dell never did make any more high density displays. Even my Retina for cheapskates model—the Dell P2415Q—was eventually discontinued. Here's the Retina state of play from ju...

Ortholinear vs Standard
How would you compare typing on a keyboard with ortholinear alphanumeric layout vs the regular standard? And I'm not talking about keys already in the ortholinear layout like the numpad and the nav cluster. Would you say you were able to type more comfortably on it, or did it depend on other factors...

Re: Monitors and eye sight
I don't think that curved display would help reducing eye strain. I had the same issue with my monitor as I was having a eye strain on a daily basis. I swapped it for this one . Since then, eye strain reduced considerably. I also use a yellow filter software to further reduce the effects of blue li...
