Re: Deskthority Secret Santa 2023 & Photo Thread
Ho ho holy moley! Santa's way too generous. I'd feel so guilty now if I'd taken part and given what I could bear to part with when others were getting hefty loot like that!

Re: IBM Model F with Nordic layout (Danish)
Good idea. In the meantime, a recent acquisition of mine—the Kailh Box White switch-equipped 8BitDo retro keyboard —is my tip for a taste of sincerely clicky action for a very fair price. It's my first Kailh board and even as a Model F snob I find its switches quite commendable. It's closer to blue ...

Peter was active here many years ago, and vanished without a trace, leaving customers without their stuff as I recall. Anyway, yes, you can definitely mix and match M and F caps: including Ellipse's creations, which are significantly better than Unicomp's modern production quality. Single unit alpha...

Re: IBM Model F with Nordic layout (Danish)
Testing switches is a good idea. If hotswap was a thing 10 years ago, when I was where you are now, I'd have definitely tried it. Mind, all there was back then were the various shades of MX. I was a bit early for all that stuff. I've had quite a few Model Fs and Ms. I’m very much on the F >> M end o...

Re: Can someone please identify this Alps keyswitch?
That's a conversion job as much a custom keyboard. A conversion is better, as you get the truly vintage vibe from everything you keep. Including, typically, the original switches.
If anyone can find a use for a thousand non-MX compatible switches, though, it's Lispnick.

The switch archivists might be interested in a handful, but I doubt anyone's making custom boards from these.

Those pale blue symbol keys are very, very cool. A mix of Runes and hidden print symbols? They're like something an AI would dream up, but I don't think we're quite there yet.

What firmware is it running now? Xwhatsit’s hardware always has that fallback reset switch to force it into DFU for a reflash. A particular advantage of QMK is its support for Pandrew’s “ util ” for checking signal levels, which is what I’d give a shot in your case. https://deskthority.net/download/...

Karabiner never stopped complaining about the system extension not being enabled, even though EventViewer said it was activated. And, needless to say, my keyboard(s) never synchronized with each other. Karabiner prime (to give it name) will be the truth: the extension is clearly not active. Annoyin...

They are relegendable caps of some sort. Uniform row profile too. They certainly don't look like any of these, as they have a border around the paper insert instead of running edge to edge: https://deskthority.net/wiki/images/b/bc/Relegendables-1.jpg The T key in particular has the right lighting to...

Sounds like all of your issues stem from this keyboard actually showing up to the host as two separate physical keyboards you just happen to be typing on simultaneously. One Shift doesn't uppercase characters on the other, and sometimes one half will even lag behind its partner. That's two keyboards...

Another few things come to mind I’d be just as reluctant to cut in half, myself! I’m not one of those solenoid nutters—there’s always someone more extreme, right?—but I love me the sweet sharp sound of solid Model F. It’s keyboard heavy metal. Mind, when it comes to Topre I’m all about the damping ,...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
30g sounds good, as it's always annoying to have to buy too much of something; as you'll know from your full KILO of the stuff. But the price is a bit teeth-baring. 1000 ÷ 30 = 33.3333 × $34 = $1133.33 of lube you think you've got there? Priced right, all 30 or so portions of the stuff seems quite l...

Re: Karabiner
Here's how I fixed my PC to Mac modifier key chording problem mentioned here . Several things were going sideways, so I'll explain them for my later self as much as anyone. :geek: When swapping around modifiers, Karabiner gets tricky in the "from": condition. Quite unintuitively, you must include th...

Yup.
You're looking for Alps-mount caps specifically, I presume?
