Re: [IC] Matias/Alps Kailh Hotswap sockets
Regarding my above post & ifohancroft's answer, that's too bad. As noted above by another poster, it'd be kinda fun to have an Alps/Alps Clone/Matias tester machine or just have the ability to switch out switches in a chassis you really like. I was kind of hoping for the Mill-Max approach, where yo...

Re: Alps & Compatible Switches Pin Sizes
I think there are some NOS complicated and simplified Alps on Taobao. Thank you! That's useful, however, I need to get back to Kailh today so by the time I get the switches it would be too late. Also, I can get the sizes of NOS switches from the datasheet. I am more interested in sizes of switches ...

Re: [IC] Matias/Alps Kailh Hotswap sockets
Unfortunately they won't fit into existing boards as the holes for the socket need to be bigger than the holes for the pins. For existing PCBs look into Mill Max sockets. There may be a version that would fit. I have no experience with them as when I've been using sockets I've only used Kailh's typ...

Re: Alps & Compatible Switches Pin Sizes
Hmm, if there usually won't be variation between the top and bottom of the pin, then 0.2 and 0.4/0.5 is too big of a variation, perhaps switches would have to be cleaned before used with the sockets. As for the width vs thickness - what you just measured seems to be the thickness. In this case, when...

Alps & Compatible Switches Pin Sizes
To make sure the hotswap sockets fit Alps switches that may have some solder leftover, as well as new Matias switches, and possibly clones, it would be awesome if anyone who has Alps or any compatible switches can measure their pins (only the part that sticks out from the bottom of the housing) and ...

Re: [IC] Matias/Alps Kailh Hotswap sockets
Thank you! That's a great idea! I didn't think of that. I thought about contacting vendors to possibly host the group buy if enough people show interest and act as a proxy, but I didn't think about contacting Keymacs and such and vendors for reaching the MOQ. P.S. I just saw your comment on the form...

I've thought in-terms of easing your life in-case your Alps switches die and have to replace them on your board but that's actually a brilliant idea.CoolPenguin1 wrote: ↑08 Mar 2022, 17:15I've wanted a ALPs testboard for a while now so I'd love for this to be a thing.

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
I haven't had a chance to read all the pages yet, so I hope someone hasn't beaten me to it: I'd love to do case and plate designs. I've probably accumulated about at least a thousand hours on keyboard case/plate design in CAD as I procrastinate working on my keyboard's PCB, but I'd need some dimensi...

[IC] Matias/Alps Kailh Hotswap sockets
Alps (and Matias) switches can benefit from some non MillMax type hotswap sockets. I've been talking with Kailh about them making such sockets and the MOQ and price they've given me for the first order that would make the sockets happen is 100K MOQ at a price between $0.045 and $0.055 per socket . I...

Re: KBParadise V60 (60%) Alps Issues
I'm not sure if it's worth it at this point or if it's not too late but I was going to suggest booting a live Linux distro and running 'dmesg' in the terminal. The idea is that you run 'dmesg' or 'dmesg -W' to be exact, then plug the keyboard and see if it shows anything. I had a KBParadise V60 with...

Re: Best mechanical mouse you can recommend!
Possible maybe. But feasible? Maybe not. Topre springs are conical so to present a much larger conductive area (near) to the PCB’s sense pad when pressed down. MX etc. use coil springs, which just get denser as they’re pushed down onto their peg. The capacitive sensor may not see anything obvious e...

Re: Best mechanical mouse you can recommend!
Does anyone know if it would be possible to use capacitive sensing on switches with a coil spring inside them? I.e. MX, Alps SKCM, etc..
I know inductive sensing is possible, but is capacitive?

Re: Best mechanical mouse you can recommend!
P.S. Do you happen to know if switch bouncing affects capsense? I.e. does it need debouncing? Bounce is an electrical effect of switch contacts touching each other, so capsense doesn't have it. In contact switches (think Alps and MX) what really happens is two bits of metal touch each other, slowly...

Re: Best mechanical mouse you can recommend!
Yes: Beam, F and Topre are all capsense. This makes them all inherently NKRO as well as removing friction from the slider. Mind, the same is true for Foam & Foil, so it's not a one-way golden ticket to greatness! But capsense sure doesn't hurt. Thank you, Mu! Well, of course, if you shit yourself, ...

Re: Best mechanical mouse you can recommend!
Since this is spam anyway, I'll just hijack the thread to ask - what is meant by a mechanical mouse? I am confused about the mechanical part in the designation. If it uses optical switches, does it still count as a mechanical? [ Edit ] To answer my own question: 1. Apparently, other regulars on here...
