Re: Noob asking for help
As a fan of most switches, I'd like to clarify that the most disparaging remarks on this thread are aimed at Cherry-branded MX switches. As has been mentioned, Cherry can't keep up with the clones, though, it is a subjective judgement after all. Preference and the delta between a poor rubber dome bo...

Re: [IC] X-wing inspired keyset
Really sorry to necro this but I finally came across the most beautiful cap set I've ever seen ; I'm not even a Star Wars fan. Would pay real money for this! In my search to see if anyone is selling one, this DT thread popped up. I was wondering if this Novel Keys set is anything to do with matt3o/t...

I love the look of this Nec PC-8801: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165338404823
I recognise the switch but I can't think of what is... 13 pin DIN too, anyone had any joy getting something like this working?

Re: New Model M vs Old IBM Model M
What are some good tutorials on how to do bolt mods? Having recently decided to bolt mod a beat-up M myself, I'd say that the screw mod is way easier if you're at all a challenged individual, like myself. Much less hassle. There is an Ultimate M Resto guide here . I found it very helpful. Shows you...

Re: New Model M vs Old IBM Model M
It depends on which generation of "Original M" when comparing build quality. As you may be aware, the older, the more robust. I'd argue that any M, new or old, is still built to a high standard when compared to most other modern mass production keyboards. The only thing that I'd point to as being wo...

Really not sure. If I was just after function, I'd just buy a GMMK hotswap barebones but I want something that looks nice. There's little personality to the GMMK boards IMO. Likely out of necessity. The Japanese language benefits from such a feature more so than English. Doesn't mean we can't be salty about it though!
It was great when I Hasu'd a HHKB JP. Though, I actually struggled to find uses for half of those extra keys when I had it

Re: Great/Interesting Finds
Never mind - I just bought one rather than risk they ran out (when I sent through an offer there were 7 competing offers - clearly a lot of interest) £24 is a good price to try a new switch. I passed up the chance to get an Alps Buckling Spring board recently which I half regret, but they are said ...

I had a 1000 mAh Adafruit battery in my Pro 2, and I never found it ran out of me. I'd echo was Muir said; if you treat it like your phone, charge it fairly regularly out of habit, you're unlikely to get caught out.

Ooo, that is quite pretty. I feel much the same as yourself. I'll be putting together an MX hotswap board in the not too distant future; many of the custom cases one sees are fairly uninspiring. I'd be after a TKL, or possibly even a full size. Where to start looking though...

Re: Topre vs Topre Silent
I'd say it's worth it if you buy second hand and the board needs the work. My BFK was dusty AF. It was night and day after I had spent the time on it. I gave a HHKB I owned similar love but I couldn't tell really tell the difference. So if you've got a new board, I'd say you're already there IMO. I'...

[...] I soooo want to get another Topre board at some point. I like having an ortho-linear layout for the numpad but would rather have it next to the main keys instead of to the right of a nav cluster. I would rather toggle num-lock back and forth when moving from numeric to nav-cluster. That's why...

Oh, and, the stabs can be lubed without dismantling the board. It ain't too easy but it is worth it to be rid of the rattle ...not that I can hear that over the grenades and gunfire but at least I know it sounds as it should.

... It's funny, after my original post and returning the full size that was sent to me in error, I did purchase a TKL AP from direct from SS.
