Yesterday I received my NIB minitouch monterey blue :

These babies are very hard to get and this one was even NIB with the cellophane still intact over the box it came in!

I think I was very lucky to get one and was wondering how rare these are? Mostly they have white clicky alps, but this one has my favorite clicky switch : the monterey blue.

How do you know these are the Montery versions? I do not see it mentioned anywhere. Is the serial number exclusive to the Montery model?

I think so.

I will stone you with nickles, if it turns out to be the ALPS variant.

Now look, no one is to stone anyone, until I blow this whistle, do you understand? Even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do s---

grats!
and same here, still ogling them mini's.. *sigh*

So I take it none of the oldskool diehard collectors has a stack of the mini montereys they're dumping soon?

Incidentally Interface, mind sharing what the damage was (on your wallet)?

I have a stack of one. I paid $100 including shipping.

NIB of course. Anything else is so Ghetto.

I used to say it would appreciate in value more than Apple Stock but I don't say that any more.

Mine was 100 dollars as well. Without shipping that is.....

I got mine from Biniaris and he was gracious enough to throw in shipping for free.

That doesn't sound too bad for NIB.. not cheap either, but hey, it's rare apparently.
Also, web/rip, how are they holding up; or does it go unused? Asking since the review on GH (rip's afair) mentioned how weak the switches appeared- and since these aren't exactly around every corner for 16$....

Chicony KB-5181, like the one reviewed at MrInterface.com. Not all KB-5181s come with blue Montereys; some have have white complicated clicky ALPS switches.

That's a tough one. I love my Northgate Ultra w/ complicated white alps, the montereys are perhaps more fun to type on but louder with that crisp click.

It is a matter of preference. The White Alps have a early tactile point and the Montereys have a very sharp tactile bump closer to the middle of the stroke. The Monterey switch feels a lot like a more tactile Cherry MX Blue.
I feel also like my Montereys have less friction than my White Alps, but that may just be a matter of wear and different exposure to dust that has interfered with the action of the switches.

Are the monterey always blue colored? Also i just found about the DSI smk-85, and it seems to use alps whites, but i dont know if they're complicated alps and clicky....

edit: also, looking at the SIIG minitouch geekhack edition what does the key with the star image does???the normal edition has a black key in there.

Oh, this feels NIIIIIIICCCCEEEEEE!

Anyhoo, it is SC226. I've seen that key be used for \ before IIRC.

Dunno where you get 226 from!

It's ISO 'Europe 2', scan code 56 hex (86 decimal) in set 1, scan code 61 hex (97 decimal) in set 2, \ on UK, <> on DE, etc.
