Model M Ping

I did a screw mod on a Model M 1390120 last month (following Madhias' excellent guide) and I'm pretty happy with how it went. One thing that I've noticed is that this keyboard seems to have a lot more ping than my other Model M, a 1391401 that was already screw modded when I bought it.

I don't really mind the sound, but was curious about the difference. Does the tension of the screws have much impact on the ping? I'm wondering if I don't have them tight enough. Or do older models normally have more ping to them?

I have a theory that weared Model M springs tend to produce more ringing. Right now I'm typing on heavily used 1996 M-122. Some of the keycaps have gained noticebly shiny surface (remember that they are made of PBT). Some of the keys have that noticeable, almost "Unicomp-like" ringing. After disassembling and bolt-moddind all of the springs/pivots got mixed, so I can't say for shure that it has a direct connection with wearing of the springs.
