Help for my Cherry G80-1000! USB connect and others Q'S

Hello everybody! I'm new to this forum and I hope to find some help with my Cherry G80-1000 HAI!
I found this keyboard some days ago searching for a mechanical old one after I discovered their benefits (apart from the lovely sound) on the net, and after a good cleaning with compressed air, because there was a lot of 80's dust inside ( it was built in 1987!) , and happily i checked it connecting to a pc with an old 5-pin to PS2 connector, and it worked!

it have behind a switch for chaning the protocol ( I think after a research that it's for change from AT to AXprotocol, don't know what this means too .. LOL)

Questions:
1- How can I make it work with my win 8 PC? do i need just a mini adapter from PS/2 to USB like this http://www.cablesdirect.com/prodimages/USB-PS2F_LR.jpg, or i need an active converter which interprets the ps/2 signal and turn it into the usb one like this http://www.clickykeyboard.com/_ebay/mod ... sb-001.jpg ?

2- can I in some way change EASILY the switches swapping from MX black to MX blue ?

3- Can I change the Keycaps to buy some others that can fit for me? (first of all because this ones are quite yellow 'cause they're old)
4- can I change the chassis with a new one (same model)? i ate the yellow-looking old plastic..

That's it.. i hope you can understand tha i'm a newbie with old-mechanic keyboards.. sorry for flooding you with questions.. and thanks in advance if someone can help me.. see ya!

May I ask why you post exactly the same as on Geekhack? You already got answers to all your questions. Double posting 1:1 to different forums is considered a bad behaviour.

Oh and deep-linking to geekhack is a really bad idea. Geekhack links and attachments tend to break

That's a very nice old keyboard !!
It will look almost like new once you have retrobrighted it .

The connector is probably a DIN-plug - You don't really need a blue-cube for that,
a DIN-to-USB converter should do the job

Nothing to be perplex about.
G80 means it has MX switches,
1000 is the older case shape,
HAI means: H=doubleshot keycaps, A=black switches, I=Italian layout.

I would suggest he experiences on something he can ruin without remorse

The keyboard does not look like it requires retorobrighting. It is just the normal standard computer beige.

Also, HAI is German for shark.

There exist also SAU which is a female pig.

@kbdfr: Don't bother, this was all explained on GH already. Lorenzo even already added something about what HAI means to the deskthority wiki page of the G80-1000. This should be edited by someone btw.

I think they are called 'Cows' in English ?
The Danish term is ' so ', means the same as German 'sau' ..
(We have 10-12 million of them at all times - The animal-sau that is )

It's often hard to tell how 'yellow' a case actually is from non-professional photos,
but since the OP says he can't stand the yellowish look -
It probably does need retrobrighting ?

Also, you can't really damage the keycaps just by placing them in a jar with hydrogen peroxide ..
The case is another matter, it requires a lot of H2O2 to cover it completely,
more than I feel comfortable purchasing these days - Since H2O2 can also be used for something else !

If you use the Xanthan gel recipe or cream developer you need less than for a few hair bleachings.

Sow (rhymes with tau) is the English name for a she-pig. Not to be confused with sow (rhymes with glow) which is planting seeds. Nor to be confused with sew (also rhymes with glow) which is what you'd do to mend clothes.

They could get white streaks if you use a too strong solution for too long. 10-15% H2O2 should be OK.

just one last thing.. can someone tell me for sure (or quite xD) if i need an active or passive adapter for this keyboard? i already have a DIN (f) to ps2 (m) connector, but i don't have the ps2 to usb one.. active or passive?

Cheap and good does not play well together.

There were some active for sale at GH. A group buy.
They work fine.
