I'm currently investigating using my mostly unused Contour Shuttle Pro 2 video editing widget with the Eclipse Java IDE. Looks promising so far :)

How exactly do you use the Contour for that? I would expect shortcuts on the keyboard to be faster/easier to reach than moving my arm for that thing just to press a button :P

One of my biggest issues with 'modern' keyboard layouts is function keys moving to the top rather than the left. When running code through the debugger I want to configure the Contour's buttons for step over/step into etc. The jog/shuttle controller works well scrolling through long code files.

Hmm. Stepping while debugging is the only situation where I could imagine that dedicated buttons are handy.
Then again you can configure the key bindings for different contexts and Eclipse can handle series of keystrokes so you could easily map most things you need on keys around the home row.

I have step into/over/return/etc on ctrl+[1-9] (I have ctrl on caps).
