A few edit guidelines

Would editors please observe the following:
  • Describe any uploaded images (using http://deskthority.net/wiki/Template:Imagedesc preferably) — for example, this picture cannot be used to populate the availability list of Omron switches as it doesn't list the keyboard: http://deskthority.net/wiki/File:Omron.jpg
  • Image filenames should be descriptive (see above) — "Omron.jpg" could mean anything
  • Do fill in the edit summary box when making changes (it's right below the wikitext box, really hard to miss) — it makes http://deskthority.net/wiki/Special:RecentChanges much easier to follow, as you can skim through what's been changed and why
  • Per the above, please do your best to proofread before posting, instead of generating a flood of edits to correct all your mistakes; every correction clutters up the recent changes list with pointless edits, and the only thing you can't check before committing changes is categorisation

I always put the description into the article, so it can be read without having to click.

Feel free to copy and paste these descriptions into the summary box!

BTW: Can we have the upload button right next to where the fileneame is entered, so we don't need to scroll?

Thanks!

Feel free to take some responsibility for your own work instead of expecting everyone to run around after you picking up the pieces.

The image description should be used for the full description (images can be used on various pages to describe various aspects of the image, often with captions that omit key details about the image that are not important for that page), the licence information, who was responsible for it, etc. For example, some images may be your own work, or you may have taken them from other sources. Maybe someone on Flickr has given you permission to repost an image with restricted usage terms. This is what the imagedesc template helps to keep standard (it's a modified version of the one used on Wikipedia — it wasn't my idea).

Also, that box is used for writing all the categories for the image. Not sure that we have any categories for photos, but we do have categories for diagrams.

You're supposed to fill in that box and then click Upload.

How can I change my uploaded pictures to use this image template? Any way to 'convert'?

You can use the Edit link at the top-right of an image page. This brings up the image description and lets you change it.
