I finally found the time to publish this project on Github: https://github.com/DmNosachev/kin80

Kin80 is a set of replacement PCBs and switch mounting plates for Kinesis Contoured keyboards.

The main reasons for creating this project:
  • I don't like Cherry Browns. They still have to be desoldered, so there is no reason to keep stock flexible boards, you can use hand wiring and simplify the matrix to 12x7.
  • Rubber top row in Kinesis keyboards (except Advantage 2). No comments.
  • Limited built-in programming capabilities of the standard controller. QMK is much more powerful.
There may be problems with the sources of the PCBs (they are in the KiCAD 6 format), I need to add additional footprints as Git submodules, so I added Gerbers everywhere.

My another project, KinBP (cheaper alternative for Stapelberg/KinT drop-in replacement controllers) will be published on next week.

Update: There is also BLE version of this controller powered by Nicenano: https://photos.app.goo.gl/GaDo66SxXfx8YZRC6.
I've found a bug in latest revision of thumb cluster PCB — columns are reversed for right thumb cluster. Once I fix it, I'll also add BLE version of controller PCB to repository.

Excited to see the KinBP.
The reliance on expensive microcontrollers has held me back from modding a couple of my boards.
