That's the thing with Mitsumi miniatures: they're *almost* awesome. When they're loose in your hand, they feel like a tiny little miracle switch: the closest thing to modular Topre I've ever handled, and with MX mount! But my board full of them is damn well nasty. It's a flimsy Chicony, and either these switches need a really tight body to hold things straight and prevent binding, or they're bloody useless because any more flex than that Chicony would be agony in itself!

Mitsumi always went cheap on materials. My Mitsumi Amiga 1000 is the only keyboard I have ever ruined simply by pulling off keycaps. The switch housing was cheap flimsy plastic. Damn you, Mitsumi! Damn you all to hell!

that made me interested Muirium! Could they be useful for a custom build? Is it mostly the board that was cheaply built, or is it also the switches themselves?

The switches are known for being quite fragile and easily pulled apart; not generally a sign of quality manufacture. I'd like to give them a try sometime, though - maybe I'll run into them somewhere along the way .

That's similar to a beam spring / Selectric mount, except the metal bit stays in the keycap. The only other keycap I've seen with a metal piece is this early Micro Switch:

Why are people so crazy about pulse? I picked up a set, and in all fairness I can't see what the fuss is all about! Sure it's a pretty set and all, but come on. This isn't even the first one to be sold at this inflated price, two sets have been sold at ebay at a similar price level.

So they are all going to support the same thing ? Thats kind of nice of people. I always find the internet can be so nice, you hear on the news about harassment and threats and all kinds of nasty stuff ( how much of that is real is a matter for another time) but still the news always goes on about how terrible people can be on the internet and then people raise money for all sorts of things when people are in need.

I watch a video series that was on the escapist , and then penny arcade and now youtube called Extra Credits. Its videos about games and the games industry and is done in a fun cartoon style. One of the artists hurt her arm and could not draw any more and the internet came up with so much money to support her they had enough left over after her surgery to set up an indy game publishing fund.

And just look how we help each other out when we are looking for that one thing to fix up an old board or whatever , people have sent me parts for cost of postage , swapped sets of keycaps with me for the correct language and so on ( and i have done the same in return) people can be so nice sometimes.

Ok, sure most of them have upon closer inspection indeed been sold for charity, and I guess that's nice and all, but I've seen at least one that wasn't. It did however reference one of these charity sales as the "market value", which would then be nothing but opportunistic and saddening.

It's been on here before, but no one has bothered with it. It would be a nice board by itself or to use for salvaging vintage clicky white MX switches.

I'm not sure if there are more easily found sources for vintage whites. If I was more invested in MX, it would be a nice board to own.

I'm not sure if these are original IBM APL keycaps or Unicomp reproductions. The font weight of the F8-key is thicker that the rest of the function keys so that might be a clue that they're Unicomps.

I think the first one is an NMB 101C but I could be wrong on that. If it is, it's clicky mechanical.

I have the Unicomp APL set at home.

I think these are the real deal. The Unicomp set has a somewhat more rounded front face. The edges on original IBM caps are far more crisp. Plus the year agrees with the APL Model M(s) on clickykeyboards.com.

I wonder what the final bid will be. I'm not bidding on this one. I already have a 122 key Model F with APL key caps on its way to me. So much for reeling in the keyboards budget.

Maybe I'll start sales again some time soon. Just in time for the holidays.

I noticed that the older APL sets have a slightly different font or at least the alpha symbol is flatter. Also, the one on clickykeyboards.com doesn't have bumps on the f and j keys. Although this might be the set Unicomp set out to reproduce, including using the same font.
