Apple keyboard ripoff

What is it with Apple and their current mass-consumer, glued-shut, scratch-unfriendly products?

The Apple aluminium KB (wired with numpad) seems to have risen in price from £30 to £40... and for what? Is this "Oh it's the recession"? This stamped out, glued shut rubber dome piffle only sells well because it has a big shiny (almost invisible!) Apple on it. Okay, they're not terrible keyboards, but you can get SO much more for your money. They don't make products as well as they used to, imho. For that price, I'd expect a mechanical KB with *screws* and durability over style. Why is this suddenly worth £10 more than before? The last gen "dirt trap" chunky Apple KB was only £20...

Common sense: Where's it gone?

Congratulations.
You joined deskthority quite exactly 72 hours or 3 days ago and this already is the 15th thread you have opened since then.

If you'd care to get to your point, I'm willing to listen. Is this a forum where people communicate by NOT typing out words? That'd be kinda ironic...

If you have nothing to say, say nothing. And if you must comment, at least be courteous, and maybe less vague about what you're trying to say. Thanks :)

My point is: instead of shouting around "Here I am, read my posts and answer my questions", you should consider that you joined an existing community.

You open threads to ask if it is possible to make a flat mechanical switch, to ask what the metal wire inside the spacebar is called, to ask where to buy replacement parts for your keyboard, to ask whether anybody has ever thought of making a magnetic switch, to explain to the astonishing world how you are learning to touch type. And of course to criticise the youtube tags.

It is typical you opened a thread to ask how much your keyboard is worth. It shows you didn't bother to read first, because if you had you coulnd't have missed the already existing thread for that, which is tacked as first thread in the marketplace section. Same for your question about the name of the stabilisator, which was just ridiculous because simplest reading around would have answered it. But you didn't bother to do that. Did you notice there is a wiki at all?

Remember, in your introductory thread you criticised geekhack after having been there for just a few hours and wrote:
glossywhite wrote:[...] I hope to enjoy my stay @ a forum that isn't run by 14 year olds [....]
Well, you behave exactly like one: you want others to be there for you and don't bother to do anything by yourself.
And you make a lot of noise.

This is quite an easy way not to reflect on what I wrote.
But well, shoud I wonder about that? It's just in line with the rest.

You want life to be more stressful and complicated, due to nitpicking? Makes no sense. It doesn't matter who's wrong and who's right, as that's all a matter of personal opinion, and leads us nowhere except deeper into resentment. You can be as bitter and self righteous as you want, but I refuse to, or to let one stranger online get to me, as I have obviously got to you.

You're really quite a rude person, but as I know that rudeness is normally done in ignorance, I forgive you. Yes - I am aware of what EOF means, but thanks for your kind explanation.

Consider this, before saddling back up on that high horse: not ONE of us is perfect, only God, and we are *all* capable of fault. Also, there are many things we do not know, and we all excel in some areas, whilst we have other areas we do not excel in so much.

Sorry if my style caused you to become offended. May I suggest a little grace, and realising that others may NOT always meet one's personal standards of behaviour, and maybe I am a little hasty with opening threads, but also, maybe you'd be better advised to take it on the chin a little more, and calm down. You won't change me, and why would I wish to change *you*? Lower your expectations a little, laugh at life, and you'll find that the world's not going to end because of this *just* yet.

Forgiveness is the key. I forgive you for thinking you have the right to judge me, and I hope you will do the same, but it's not my choice to force that, nor would I wish for it.

God bless you :)

in this case, what he's said is fact, it's not a matter of opinion. all of the topics you've brought up in your threads (which won't garner a lot of attention as a result) have been discussed or documented, at length, at leasts once or twice. the information in those threads (or in the wiki) is both easy to find and read.
You're really quite a rude person, but as I know that rudeness is normally done in ignorance, I forgive you. Yes - I am aware of what EOF means, but thanks for your kind explanation.
in this case, i believe you're the one who's being rude. think about it this way: he's trying to help you understand how this community (which has existed LONG before you came here) works, and why it moves slowly. it's because people don't appreciate reposting, but rather longer drawn out threads where a fuller knowledge is discovered. also, consider the population here, the tenure of the members, and that you're new. you need to at some level respect that what you're being told, and that you're not being brushed off or disrespected. yes, you're a member, but you should still act like a guest until you get to know the place.
Consider this, before saddling back up on that high horse: not ONE of us is perfect, only God, and we are *all* capable of fault. Also, there are many things we do not know, and we all excel in some areas, whilst we have other areas we do not excel in so much.

well written, but again, consider your tenure here, and re-read it from our perspective. this comes across as very disrespectful. if i invited a guest in my home, and he wore his shoes on my carpet, and he told me "you should make your guests comfortable by allowing them to do as they do at home" after asking him to leave them at the door... i'd be pissed. that's more or less what you're doing, and suggesting, with the statement above. this is just how things work here. as a guest with less than 4 days here, you're not going to change things, and certainly not without ruffling a few feathers.
God bless you :)
again, consider the population around you. this isn't a religious or social forum, this is a keyboard forum. no one is going to tell you to stow it, but it's coming across a little thick if you catch my drift.

First, I don't think that the things kbdfr wrote are just a matter of personal opinion. To my knowledge, it was, and I think it still is, proper forum etiquette to, first, lurk for at least a few weeks to get to know how things are handled in a forum (tone, style of communication, who's who, etc.), second, if you think this forum suits you, you join, and post in some already existing threads, not trying to post absolutely useless stuff that is only of interest to you, and third, you open your own thread, after having searched for an already existing thread that answers your question, but didn't find any.

I don't think you followed any of the rules. And yes, you act as a 14-year-old.

To answer your initial question: For the public, the broader mass, the ragtag and bobtail, there never was such a thing as common sense. Just look at anything that's popular in TV, music, etc. I'm just not astonished any more.

We’re not talking about a wider circle here: we’re talking specifically about Unicomp. Nowhere in my post did I suggest you should “sit around all day building unsolicited prototypes”. I suggested you build *one* unsolicited prototype, for *one* company, *one* time. That is not the same thing.

If you were genuinely concerned about Unicomp’s continued survival, and felt you had the skills to help them, you’d spend a few — ten, at most? — hours putting together a simple prototype and offering it to them. They seem like a friendly, decent company, and I imagine they would reward you somehow if they thought your help had been valulable. Offering them a prototype for consideration is not the same as implementing a top-to-bottom redesign pro bono.
I think you may want to post this in another thread. ;)

Well. I really don't feel like entering a rage/flamethread, but I'm afraid I have to agree on the general consensus here. We’re not in the IRC here, this forum moves slowly, and that's fine. Nothing you should change anything about. I never thought “Think before you post“ would need to be written down anywhere until now. This is nothing personal. I don't know you. You might be a pretty nice person in the real world, but this flood of posts is exactly the reason I left geekhack. I was tired of having to cherry pick all the interesting threads out of the huge amount of threads which are posted there everyday, and having to read the same questions all the time. This place is much more quiet, and that's fine. If you want to know about anything you'd be better advised to gather information about this topic on your own at first, and then if there are still answers left, which haven't been answered yet, you are free to ask about them. This is what makes this place so great, especially in comparison to geekhack.

And once again: This has nothing to do with you, this applies on everyone, in any forum.

And one more thing: I would be happy if you left out the “God bless you”. Not everybody in this world is Christian, or even religious. I for myself am somewhere between Agnostic and Ásatrú, a heathen if you will, but still I don't see any reason to tell anyone about it, and end every post this way:

Hail to the Aesir and the Vanir!

It's logic. There are two possibilities. 1) God does not exist, and this fake religion is run by child fuckers. It's a child fucker's religion. 2) God does exist, and he allows his religion to be run by child fuckers, despite his powers. It's a child fucker's religion.

Such a shame, as you have the potential to be a nice person.

It only further shows that I speak the truth regarding God, and your denial of him. Will you be so sure of this, on judgement day? I think not.

Heh, to be honest, the post looked highly suspicious to me right from the outset. I mean 57 NIB Model Ms held in a "secure location" which have to be sold by 9am tomorrow. C'mon! However, you have to play along with it just for the 0.1% chance that the guy might be genuine.
