Experience with blank or hard to see keycaps

Hi,

I have just bought a new Realforce tenkeyless keyboard - the only option for me (UK, tenkeyless) was black on black keys. I am loving the feel of the keys but I must admit I find the lack of clear lettering can be frustrating at times.

It's fine when my hands are on the home row but when using the keyboard in conjunction with the mouse I find it a bit trickier to hit the right keys.

I'm wondering what other peoples experience with blank/hard to see lettering has been?

I think it's a matter of just getting used to it; I used blanks for a while but prefer being able to see the keys, as I never really learned to touch type properly. I know where everything is, but my hands don't get there as well if I can't occasionally look where they're going.

Yeah that's my experience. I can touch type pretty well and have no problems with any keys when my hands are properly set on the home row. It's the "off hand" manoeuvres that can frustrate me.

I'm hoping this will improve otherwise I will have to invest in some nice white lettered keys which ain't exactly cheap and would be missing keys as they don't seem to be available in my UK keyboard layout.

I use blank keys, never been a problem. I'm sure you will get used to it and become a better typist for it.

Used one for 3 or 4 years now... did wonders for touch typing when writing, letters number row and punctuation.

Almost got special characters down, but still ended up hunting sometimes, either I'd instinctually get it right the first pres or just have no idea and be hunting all over the number row.

Not sure what that section is called, but prnt screen through page down, never ever got the hang of that shit apart from the "end" key. Obviously that's just about use though, the ones you commonly use you'll learn.

Very happy to have spent those years on blanks, but I'll be going back to printed with all future purchases, I've got the benefit in my touch typing and am happy to look down for the occasional special character.

I got my 2nd mech wth blanks for that reason, to force myself to learn to type without having to look. I even mastered off hand things as I still don't type properly at all but I do know where everything is now includeing shifted punctuation. Even if I am doing one handed. It takes a little while to get there but if you want to keep it up blanks are a good way to do it. I do prefer legends now though, but not for the utility but more as a decoration.
