Re: Micro Switch 53RW4-1 keyboard review (MS magnetic reed)

Couple comments on the video: 1) The layout, alien as it is to modern eyes, is clearly for a "Data Entry" keyboard. There's plenty of later keyboards with the same layout for the alphas (even IBM Unsavers). 2) I would submit that the first "truly widely adopted keyboard standard" isn't the XT layout...

Re: How did you found your internet nickname?

I've had to plead the Fifth on the motivation for my own online handle (what the young whippersnappers call "Internet nickname") so many times that I sometimes wonder if I should just discard it and start being known as "IPleadTheFifth".

I've been unironically toying with the idea
an ortho board with only 12u is still pretty workable so 14 should be a piece of cake
I'd answer this, but it would go excessively off-topic. We need a subforum dedicated specifically to layouting (my favourite subject, as it happens to be).

Re: Unicomp - New Model M review

we're trying to whine here, Mister! I can whine too then, unicomp should chop it down to 14u and change the bottom row to 1.25-1-1.25-3.5-3.5-1.25-1-1.25 which is the bottom row of champions. An alpha block that is fourteen units wide? The Roman God Tecladius shall smite you for this aberration. Yo...

Re: Unicomp - New Model M review

Unicomp's current design is the most economical compromise for people who really need 2 windows keys (unsure exactly what you would need 2 for but its there for folks that need it ig) and with a spacebar swap can be switched to 1.5-1-1.5-7-1.5-1-1.5, which is the best 15u bottom row anyway. Any "im...

Can you replace the spacebar with a longer one, in order to remove that horrible button on the right that takes the place of the alt gr? What are you talking about? The RALT key (Alt or AltGr) is in the correct position and is of the correct size (1.5u). They had every opportunity to fix the bottom...

That clip! So many keyboards, so many monitors, the entire "banking section", all connected to the computer.

OTOH, I have one laptop and 40+ keyboards, so who am I to complain?

Now here's the LTT problem: do we want James, the ergonomic freak, to do the review, or Luke, the normal mechanical keyboard guru who's a bit out of touch with the scene? Neither are ideal. I bet Linus would love them though. Neither. James would spew crap, Luke would have no idea, and Linus would ...

For me, the real question is "Given this thing is rather large, WHY did they bother to cut off 0.25U from the main alpha block?". There seems to be no good reason for it.

There is no significant improvement compared to standard keyboards. Get an ergonomic keyboard with thumb clusters (Kinesis Advantage, Ergodox, ...). Thanks for the honest opinion. As a 3101 layout user I LOVE the 2x1U enter key. Still, get the point of the law , I think that's the main problem of try to get a keyboard both compact and as complete as you can. Weirdly, giving your keyboard back those 0.25U on the rightside would make for a wide-e...
