[WTS] IBM 3741 Beamspring Keyboard Module
Hi all, I am interested in selling my 3741 Beamspring Keyboard module. For those who don't know this is a fairly rare model of beamspring that was directly integrated in the famous 3741 Data Station desk. I don't have the original desk that came with it so what I am offering to sell is just the keyb...

Re: Shit, I fell for it
You should cancel mate, this was andj00's full intention from the start. It was his full intention to bait someone into making this error, and it has worked, he's already had to face people cancelling purchases on his Apple IIc multiple times for the same reason. Mistake purchases (which is what th...

Re: IBM 3278 Beam Spring
You are certainly not doing "terrible things community wise", getting flac for selling anything with a high price tag is just par for the course. It's something I know all too well as I ended up finding over a dozen 3278's a few years ago and sold most of them for $700-800 each, depending on the con...

Re: IBM 3278 Beam Spring
I am a little surprised that someone actually suggested asking $3K for this given it's one of the more common models of Beamspring out there. I mean yeah it's in great condition, but if you had asked me 2 years ago I would have said $1.5K would have been close to the upper limit. I guess beamers are...

Re: Shit, I fell for it
I don't get it...what is this? Basically, the keyboard that was sold in this listing normally comes with SKCM Amber Alps switches which are highly coveted and can normally go for more than $2.50 per switch. The seller replaced the switches with Dampened SKCM Creams which are not very desirable (as ...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
If anyone is having issues with a rattly or shrill spacebar, try putting thin adhesive neoprene under the stabiliser wire next to the tabs on the barrel frame. This has made the spacebar quieter and more solid, without making it mushy. For some reason after disassembling the keyboard, the spacebar ...

You can see it however the fuck you want lad, the fact is I've seen NIB SSK's live on ebay for a maximum of $600. Some of these had even been opened up and bolt modded to ensure they pretty much last forever. How exactly can you boil down my thoughts to jealousy? I decided not to buy new SSKs in th...

I managed to find someone who sold me a 2-piece F122 set, so I have updated the title. Figured I might as well ask for an F AT foot since I have meant to find a replacement for a while.

Re: [IC] IBM Doubleshot Key Cap Set Group Buy?
I am definitely interested but have a few questions. Mainly: 1) Have you already decided on the colorway? My personal favorite for spherical sets is something like space cadet (eg, gray alphas and blue modifiers and vice versa). 2) What layouts are you planning to support? I would assume by default ...

Just wanted to stop by to say that I am pretty excited to see all the progress that has been happening with this project recently, including the effort that has been made to port QMK to xwhatsit. I have not actually used a keyboard with QMK, but the feature that excites me most is the automatic cali...

Re: IBM 5100 find
Congrats man! I could be wrong but I don't think you'll have much trouble diagnosing your keyboard problem unless there is physical damage somewhere. It's quite easy to remove from the rest of the machine and can then be disassembled just like any other beamspring.

Re: IBM 5100 find
That 5100 of yours looks to be in pretty good shape considering it's a barn house find. I suggest wearing gloves when you begin your restoration as the foam underneath the card cage will most likely have turned into a nasty puddle of tar that can be very difficult to wash off. Good luck on the resto...

Re: Honest opinion on beamspring boards?
I too like the feel of beamsprings a tad more than capacitive BS, but they are much more vulnerable to contamination, which is a con that very few people mention. My guess is that YMMV and some models are just more prone than others to negative side-effects when enough dust and debris makes it into ...

WTB - Model F 2-piece caps
I know this is an unusual request, but seeing the recent 5291 review from Thomas made me remember that there is a difference in quality between Model M and OG Model F caps in terms of smoothness as mounted on F barrels. I need a set of at least 104 and don't care about the legends as I only actually...

Re: IBM 5291 Model F "Bigfoot" keyboard review (capacitive buckling springs)
Have you tried mounting some caps from your other F's and seeing if that makes a difference in smoothness? I've long suspected that my 1386965 Unsaver was actually Lexmark made and have found that the stock caps it came with are scratchier than other F caps I have tried mounted on the same keyboard ...

Re: Modern Beamspring? - The Silo Beam Switch
Very exciting news indeed! I have long been of the opinion that the lack of innovation in switch designs has been one of the things that has made me less interested in modern keyboards as of late, though this reality is understandable since designing new switches requires a lot more know-how and ing...

Re: What's Wrong with a Thrift Shop?
As far as Chyros is concerned I am pretty sure most of his finds were from a recycling center while he was living in the UK rather than a thrift store. I'd say it has little to do with what country you are in since plenty of decent thrift store finds have been documented in the community, but really...

Re: Learning to touch-type properly
I didn't learn to touch type until I turned 20. I was self-taught, never took a formal typing class. What worked for me was consciously forcing my fingers to stay near the home row until I developed the muscle memory and... playing tons of Typing of the Dead. Seriously, it works.
