Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

We had an identical one on page 142 or 143 of this thread. I also said I'd buy it just because it looks cool. I also said that I thought I saw one before and it was an Alps plate spring. Can't confirm because I can't find the one said I saw. When you get it, please post pics of the switches. If you ...

Re: My 1991 NorthGate OmniKey 102 with ALPS SKCM Whites

I'm a fan of Rust-Oleum products. Check out my thread and before/after pics. I have at least two more Alps and one NEC keyboard that need some mounting-plate work. Hey, it worked great on a Model F, so let's see how it does on Alps! I seriously thought the tape on your fork said, "Alps meth opener."...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

Some of what Chyrosran in a recent review calls Micro Switch microswitch switches: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224171925218 He believes them to be the tallest keyboard switches around. IIRC, he did say that he needed at least one switch. The seller has about 90 total available, so a TKL project board,...

Re: Does anyone make "retro" USB mice in the style of the old, boxy ones from the 80s?

I happen to love trackballs. The one I have is virtually unchanged in appearance since the 1990s. The company that now makes it is X-Keys. Take a look. They do have a beige one and one that has fun colors. There are also ones with light-up trackballs. Also, in the 1990s, Microsoft produced what has ...

There is an orbit "mouse" for $175 shipped on the bay.. very cool vintage pointing device. Skill level required and dollar level required to get it going both too high for me. 272688588455 I guessed at "former military use" and I was right . 4" L x 2.3" H x 4" wide. It's also pretty clean on the inside. I've been lucky to get boards that are in pretty good shape. The non-IBM keyboards I get mainly just have dirty keycaps and/or are various shades of yellow, rather than having broken keys or other physical problems -- except when I'm specifically buying a known ...

AEKII.png Apple Extended Keyboard II. Alps cream damped. Not a very artsy picture, but I think the condition of the keyboard makes up for it. So, after having four or five Alps clone keyboards come to me, I now have three Alps: this one, a Chicony with SKCM pine white Alps, and a cool-looking termi...

Stackpole. See here . Guess I was too stupid so use the search function. I've tried either stackpole or a stackpole clone (green switches in a Ti99 keyboard) and they were serviceable but not pleasant. In the video I saw from Chyros, the TI had green Stackpole switches and he described them as (IIR...

Remember to get good gloves and safety glasses. Retr0bright causes chemical burns that aren't especially pleasant.

I feel like anyone looking to buy something is already looking on eBay and it doesn't really do any good to also post here. I can see it a couple different ways: 1. If there's a member in good standing here that's got something on ebay, I might be interested. However, why didn't you post it on the ...

Re: How many keyboards is enough?!

Answering the thread's question, I have two computers that I use daily, so there's the two. I'd like to have one more as a backup. So, three is enough for me to have. Mind you, I'm not a collector. I just repair keyboards for the fun of it. I am looking for the "endgame" keyboard. I really like the ...

Re: White Alps Question

That's a great description, ZedTheMan. Thanks very much. After having several Alps clone keyboards pass through my hands, I recently bought three true Alps keyboards: the Chicony, an AEK II with cream damped, and a Cumulus terminal board with SKCL yellow (all keys have the LED cutout). On the Cumulu...

White Alps Question

I recently bought a rebadged Chicony 5161c/5162c. There's a 1988 Chicony copyright and the word "Alps" (not the cool cursive logo) stamped on the PCB. It has white Alps switches and there are slits in the top housing, which I verified by disassembling a switch. No logo on the switch top housing. I'v...

Re: Stuff you just bought

I'll first mention that I'm not a chemist or chemist adjacent. I think the biggest thing is to have direct sunlight. I don't have a problem with that out here, because I live in a desert and we have high UV warnings almost every day. I think the second thing is to make sure that whatever you're retr...

Re: Stuff you just bought

Now that I've owned several older Alps and Alps clone keyboards, I realize that Tai-Hao keycaps are really common. Anyhow, they do take to retr0brighting extremely well. For the case, itself, if you can remove the "2001" logo, the F key legend strip, and the indicator light strip, you should be good...

If there's one thing I've learned on this forum is to never assume without seeing an actual switch. Hey, the user could have swapped out all the switches with Cherry MX browns.
