The slight bowl or well shape is extremly satisfying to type on, decreases distance slightly and just seems to guide the fingers and hands back to centered positions with every little touch. What a nice looking keyboard. I had not thought of centering by touch. Thanks for sharing. (I was planning t...

MCP23017 and MCP23S17 are push-pull. MCP23018 and MCP23S18 are open drain. MCP23017 and MCP23018 are I2C. MCP23S17 and MCP23S18 are SPI. I2C is fast enough for scanning up to 5 rows. The keybrd_DH (DodoHand) sketch polls 5 rows over I2C at 7.5ms per keyboard scan. I2C speed is limited by the I/O exp...

A decoupling capacitor between the power and ground suppresses noise. Some keyboards use a capacitor to debounce switches. Other keyboards use firmware to debounce switches. If the keyboard half has 24 keys or less, use shift registers. If the keyboard half has more then 24 keys or has LEDs, use an ...

Hi 7bit,
What does "NW" mean in "MXCLEAR/NW"?

Suka,

Thank you for sharing your keyboard layout :) .

Is there a way to lock layers? For example, lock the symbols layer to write a long equation.
If so, how are the layers locked?

Thanks Suka. The two-mode thumb keys are clever and efficient 8-) . I will try that on my next keyboard. I am curios about the placement of your shift key. Shift and space keys are on the same thumb. Space-capitalize bigrams are common (first letter of sentence), especially in German. Why not swap S...

Thanks jeff. I would not have guessed to use PVC sheet. Thanks for the idea :D .
Have you considered a thumb well? There is a mockup posted on http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=42141.0
I want to try a six-key thumbwell.

suka, That's a nice collection of keyboards you have made. I want to follow your example and try out my own keyboard concepts. Thank you for posting great information :D . What is the layout of your Blue Cube keyboard? I am particularly interested in the symbols layer and how you squeezed the number...

jeff,

That's some amazing prototyping and experimenting. There is much to gained from 3-D keyboards.

About that curved keyboard you posted pictures of in December, January, February:
How did you cut the switch holes into the steel mount plate?

Thank you.

Pointer movement using home row keys?

I would like to mouse using the home row keys.
Something similar to the “Mouse Lock Layer” described on http://www.key64.org/design
Is there a similar software I can install on Windows or Linux to use on my conventional keyboard?

Thank you.
