Re: Cyberboard | Do you like this cybertank ?

I surprisingly found it in a Keyboard bbs of China. [...] I wanner (sic) share with you the latest information I got from the designer. That design won't leave anyone indifferent that's for sure! If I were to describe it, I might say "Lite-Brite meets keyboard"... @OP: nothing wrong with announcing...

Re: Stuff you just bought

For traceball functionality, I have no idea yet. Maybe someone here could do a favour? I think the last time I used a serial mouse was with Windows 3.1, but, assuming it's a "regular" serial mouse, the drivers are still available in Windows 10. Get a working serial port (many serial to USB adapters...

Alternately, you might just totally swap XT guts into your case if the backplate uses the same mounting as the XT.
It does! Source: I have a "Bigfoot" case with an XT assembly installed.

Take a look at Tipro, Cherry MX Black would be quieter than buckling spring, kbdfr is our resident expert on the brand: viewtopic.php?p=439273#p439273

You have much to learn ;) If you want something clicky there are many options I'd consider better than those two: buckling spring, clicky Alps SKCM, and Kailh Box would all be a significant improvement on click-jacket designs.

Keep in mind the lamp, err, "conversion" was probably done in the late eighties judging by the note inside. Now, 1300$ starting bid with that alteration? nah.

Re: Converting a PC Keyboard to a Terminal Keyboard using Soarer?

What you're referring to as a "hub" is an "A-B switch". Unfortunately, Soarer's firmware is closed source and the author has effectively disappeared without a trace some years ago. It would be ok to convert from PS/2 (Set 2) to USB HID but won't cover USB HID to Set 3 (Terminal), I'm not sure such a...

Re: Keyboards banned from work

I've been running MX Clears at the office for some time already, no complaints yet and a few compliments on the custom keycaps. My Matias is quieter but I've had keys chatter on it before so I'm hesitant to bring it since I wouldn't have the tools or time to deal with that there. Not sure I could ge...

Only reheating the joints one or two at a time without removing the package, which would be difficult without a hot air rework machine.

Taking it without permission could be considered theft; even if they don't go to the police, is this bridge already burnt to a crisp? Depends on company culture and how vindictive that soon-to-be ex-boss of yours is. Who does "IT asset management"? Ask that person about what'll happen with your old ...

First suspects would be the mini-B connectors on both halves, then possibly the right side controller, which you could reflow.

For all the criticisms some have towards Cherry, their "gold crosspoint" contacts shouldn't oxidize like I've seen on that 4C with Greetech switches, keep that in mind with respect to longer term reliability. Some other ideas... a plate mount TKL with relatively narrow side bezels: short of an ergon...

Re: Is there something like Deskthority for mobile phones?

Depending on how far back you want to go I'd give XDA-developers a try, that forum began back with early Windows Mobile devices (I joined it back when I was tinkering with my first Android phones). Howardforums might also be of interest. Note that there's an important difference between early cellph...

Re: Fixing Omnikey Ultra

Did you just take apart the switch tops or did you desolder them? Beside suspected coffee in this instance, old keyboards often have *lots* of rosin flux on the bottom, I've seen this on both AEK IIs and AT101s, wouldn't be surprised old Focus boards have the same. Is this a single layer and single ...

Re: Has anyone ordered custom keycaps from Unicomp for the Model f or m?

I've had two issues with Unicomp caps in the past: legend alignment (not applicable since you want blanks) and left-over flashing. The latter is easy to fix by removing the excess material (viewtopic.php?p=435653#p435653).

Myoth is on here as well, so maybe he can chime in with respect to the protocol. As hypkx says, it's probably a PS/2 board given the otherwise bog-standard AZERTY layout. If it's Set 1 or 3, there's converters, assuming the worst case of a never-before-seen custom protocol, the controller is always ...

In my experience with Unicomp keycaps on Model F springs, it seems the scratchiness comes from the keycap rubbing against the spring.
If the scratchiness is caused by flashing the solution is to remove the excess material.

How is that thing supposed to work? i.e. how does a keypress go from a "module" to the "baseboard" ? How does the baseboard tell modules apart?

Also @iamelaineee: welcome to DT, if you have any ties with the maker of this board it is good practice to disclose this.
