Re: A Modern Contactless MX-style mount switch?

The only "contactless" design I can think of that could be made entirely compliant with the MX form factor would be magnetic reed based.

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

why invent this [TellerVision keyboard] at all? I think the name hints to why. My hypothesis is this would have been meant for use with some sort of (GUI, not text terminal) specialized software for bank tellers. They'd be using the numpad, mouse, nav and functions constantly while typing names and...

Re: Special Courier Service?

Can you divulge how heavy and bulky? Where is it in Canada? That would help getting a better answer. The current pandemic will complicate things, especially since your seller is firmly in an "at risk" category. Thinking out loud: if it's about the size of a computer tower, maybe a smaller shop that ...

LTT Does Dye Sub

Seems no one's posted this here yet, Linus Sebastian has posted a tutorial on key cap dye sublimation a couple days ago: -scV7LLvdh8 That process itself isn't new but it's the first time I've seen it on video. Re: How to build a custom keyboard - new edition

I haven't done any handwiring yet, but given the pins' offset on MX-type switches would it be reasonable to solder the row diodes directly between two switches rather than using wire? (However it would preclude your "naked wire" approach on the columns.)

People here and on GH have repaired Model M matrices before using conductive copper tape or conductive ink, you could also order replacement sheets from Unicomp.

Re: When did you first start appreciating keyboards?

I came to mechanical boards by way of ergonomic concerns five years ago: I found myself using full-size keyboards regularly for the first time after years on laptops and my right shoulder began acting up from constantly reaching for my mouse all the way to the right. Figured I needed something narro...

Re: New ThinkPad Trackpoint Keyboard II

I have the wired 2013 model, the nav key placement is disappointing. Fn + the arrows feel like the smarter option but there's no documented way to reprogram the layout on this thing. I tried Fn + all the unmarked keys in Switch Hitter and there aren't any scancodes coming out. So yeah, no Pause or S...

New, COTS? Matias for another variant on the Alps designs. (You'd also be encouraging a Canadian company if that's something you care about.)
Vintage? Model F. If you've liked the M, like clicky switches in general, and can live with the not-quite-modern-standard layouts they're pretty hard to beat.

Re: Just getting started with mechanical keyboards.

Once the pandemic is sorted out (I know, this is still some time away) "keyboard meetups" should resume in many places and give you an opportunity to try out various keyboards and switch types. As a stopgap you could always buy or borrow a switch tester. Beyond that, review videos are a good option ...

Wouldn't be as fancy, but couldn't you build a frame from straight pieces of wood and either leave the bottom open or then slap on a flat piece of wood or acrylic to close everything off? No need for a router then.

Re: Large print / high contrast keycaps?

I'd take a look at WASD or Max Keyboard ; either company could print something with large characters and high contrast. Max Keyboard also does backlit laser ablated sets but I think the backlighting would be too uneven on large characters to go down that route. Both companies use a regular "OEM" pro...

For traceball functionality, I have no idea yet. Maybe someone here could do a favour? You have much to learn ;) If you want something clicky there are many options I'd consider better than those two: buckling spring, clicky Alps SKCM, and Kailh Box would all be a significant improvement on click-jacket designs.

What you're referring to as a "hub" is an "A-B switch". Unfortunately, Soarer's firmware is closed source and the author has effectively disappeared without a trace some years ago. It would be ok to convert from PS/2 (Set 2) to USB HID but won't cover USB HID to Set 3 (Terminal), I'm not sure such a...
