Re: Recommendation needed - quiet mechanical for Model M user

I'll second the Matias dampened tactile switch option: much sharper tactility and quieter than unsilenced Cherry MX Brown or Clear. Haven't tried Zilents yet.

You could try sanding the 8 key down to the original whiteness since they're double-shot. It will wreck the texture though.
Could a drop of peroxide cream applied only on the legends with a toothpick work?

Re: Not Sure I'm Happy with Cherry MX...

I don't think I could live without the standard arrow keys though. I use those all the time. For what it's worth you could transform that numpad into an arrow cluster: the zero can be split in two. The F AT can also be ANSI or ISO modded if you don't like the BAE. There's also two pads for the usua...

Re: Help me out on my quest

And because it is Alps, is this like a few decades old? If it is a few decades old, I think I'd rather go with Matias' just due to the durability. The KBParadise and Matias-branded boards on the market are made with current-production "successor" or "clone" switches that share the same keycap mount...

Re: Help me out on my quest

Judging by your current TKL Razer and your interest in the V80, I can't recall any vintage "TKL" form-factor Alps boards: customs and the V80 are your only options. If you're still ok with full size you have much more choice. Thinking out loud: what about click-modding a Dell Bigfoot? I've had one Q...

Pro Micro clone + TMK Onekey with the PS/2 mouse support enabled, it's what I've done to revive an old Microspeed.

Re: Not Sure I'm Happy with Cherry MX...

The project itself already has flippers and springs set aside.

For the ping on the Model Fs (or M for that matter), you could always try a "floss mod" which removes a lot of that without affecting feel. Plus it's easily reversible if you don't like it.

Re: Not Sure I'm Happy with Cherry MX...

Maybe I've just been so conditioned to the extreme of buckling springs for 20 years, that anything less harsh and mechanical feels mushy and imprecise by comparison? I would think so. After all the buckling spring's tactility is quite sharp and happens right at actuation. For something more silent ...

I think that's an HP rubber dome, they made Alps boards with the same profile on some laptops but I don't recall any full sized ones; get the seller to photograph the underside if you can.

Here's a way to improve your odds per the Wiki article : Aside from the country of manufacture, the other way to readily distinguish this variant from the others is the presence of three (rather than four) screw holes on the bottom of the case. @Murium: did the ANSI Alps mount model also have a thre...

If you're just curious about the general shape and feel of a trackball, elecplus has a couple of Microspeed (CST's old name) units in stock. I added one to an order about a year ago, converted it to USB using TMK. I found the 400 CPI too slow for my tastes, but it was close enough to give me a good ...

Excellent!

(I wouldn't worry about having removed too much material: some old batches of caps had a notch about twice as high with no notable difference in sound or operation, so there's some leeway here.)

I checked my stash of extra Unicomp caps and it turns out a few still had the molding defects I have in mind ( flashing ). Some "witness marks" where the mold separates are completely normal and you'll see them on correct stems, this isn't: 2019-01-21 01.32.38.jpg 2019-01-21 01.34.10.jpg So the fix ...

Welcome to DT! I don't really see how springs could get bent in shipping, anyhow you got that fixed, so moving along... Re: Need Help with QMK, MagicForce MF68 Oddball Rebuild

For shorter questions the code formatting feature here is fine, but for uploading all your sources, keeping track of your changes and so on, my recommendation is that your familiarize yourself with Git and GitHub. This way you can push your branch to GitHub and anyone interested can look at it there.

it seems the plate is melted on. That is correct!
