When the motor turned it would sense if you'd partially pressed a key and if you had, it would pull that key down from under your finger (ahh, heavenly). At the end of the cycle it would slam the key back into your finger (Violent). You learned pretty quickly that you didn't so much __type__ on ...

I personally have never bought anything from the US. Most of the time the shipping cost is not worth it for me.

I just checked with UPS (not USPS) and it's even more expensive.

I've bought from UK sellers on /r/mechmarket twice over the last month. The biggest item was a Pok3r, but still. The ...

How do you folks normally get stuff from the US?

IBM Pingmasters are still available on Ebay

I had been looking on Ebay for while for one of these keyboards, but IBM Pingmaster and ibm 6112884 on Ebay's searches weren't returning anything.

These keyboards are indeed still available. However 6112884 corresponds to the part number for the Japanese-keycapped version, which does seem to be ...

Ah. I see what you mean now. Thanks!

and you would need to get the Dremel out for that Capslock.

I just laid an MX Capslock on top of a Model F's Capslock barrel. The barrel seems to be about 5mm to the left of where it needs to be to align with the MX key. If that's the issue, is it possible to make an adapter in which the MX ...

Thank you for doing these videos, Chyros! I've enjoyed them and have learned a lot, but I'm still laughing from the review of the IBM PC jr. chiclet-key that I watched this morning ( feels like it was made out of used condoms ).

If you ever wanted to also review movies, restaurants, web sites, etc ...

To me, the single biggest test of "modernness" in a keyboard is using the well established ANSI and/or ISO layouts that have been used, with rare exceptions, since the mid-1980s. Having the muscle memory for those layouts was one of the biggest excitement factors of the MF for me: an SSK, but with ...

Model F is alive anyway, almost indestructible if you ask me. That's why we need a modern F. There is one major F project already of course.

I'm a brand new Model F convert and so it's awesome to have an opportunity to ask this ... What constitutes a "modern F?"

(and if anyone else has some ...

In my religion (that I just made up), missing out on St. Patrick's Day beer is a sin. Or any other day's beer. It's a rather strict religion now that about it. :D

Phase 2 will focus on making an F assembly that is cheaper to produce, more modern in appearance, and refining the switch itself so that is ALWAYS consistent (less ping and twang). Not sure if that is actually at a lower dB level yet, but think more "crisp".

Onwards and upwards isn't bad news ...
