So I removed the information card which did not go so well at first which has left my card with some damage. Not a show stopper though. It turns out my fear that the label might get damaged after getting wet was entirely unfounded as the card is not actually a cheap piece of paper but more like a th...

So I have not touched the case beyond simple cleaning. Honestly I am not quite ready to tackle the case yet. I have been considering everything needed to make it look as good as new though. Also some of the experience gained in my recent endeavors and further readings here on DT should prove to be u...

Any more updates on this? Interested to see what has been done in the last couple of months! I have not forgotten about this project but progress has been slow. I also had started work on a few other project keyboards and have not had as much time on weekends to really dig into some of this stuff. ...

Hopefully things work out for you gnarlsagan. I think auto voltage is a bit misleading. Get it close with manual adjustment and if you end up with a couple for example that have trouble registering, then try the auto voltage. I recall the manual covers this feature in more detail.

Although that monitor is not the original IBM one, I really like the amber color of the text. I bet that was an expensive kit in it's day. Also it is a really nice bonus that you have one with a working hard drive. You got a good one for sure.

The shop I work for had a bunch of Midwest Micro PC's back in the day. I found an NMB rubber dome with Midwest Micro branding.

Sounds like a good deal, especially considering the price of shipping. Heck, look at the prices just the XT keyboards bring. Does the 5150 turn on? Also I would love to see some pictures whenever you have a chance.

Nice work! So yours is now the blue whale instead of a white whale. What is the toggle switch used for? It to be connected to the solenoid driver in some fashion. Also how well does that foam work as a contamination shield? Does it interfere while typing?

That's a good point, E3E. Help us out, JP!! What's your method for finding stuff? I've tried calling my local recycling center, but they told me that everything was state property and that I couldn't do any rummaging. Short of just knocking on people's door I'm not sure what else I can try. I have ...

Very nice! I thought those days were over, but apparently not yet! I think part of the reason it seems that way, aside from things these days being more obviously less obscure (and everyone doing price checks before letting go of their old "junk") is that many people just aren't willing to do every...

IBM Mega Haul

So this weekend I scored a huge cache of IBM stuff from a local seller at a very reasonable price. There was even more stuff than this but was not IBM or keyboard related. The Haul: -A complete IBM 5150 PC with original boxes and accessories. The system is absolutely mint but is currently not workin...

Haha, I am fresh out of bananas. I have cleaned all the keys and now need to give the case a bath. I am worried about preserving the DisplayWriter information card. DisplayWriter Restoration and Conversion

This is a DisplayWriter keyboard I purchased about a month and make been slowly working on it. I feel as though I have made enough progress with this that I can start a post detailing the progress. Before a tear down I decided to test the functionality using a modified Xwhatsit from Orihalcon. 001.J...

I had the same symptoms as well with random keys showing up as grey or actuated. I literally started at 200 and worked my way down, one increment at a time until more and more keys started to register and the random key presses disappeared. It was like a fine line between madness and genius for me. ...

I've had positive experience dealing with Ellipse. I don't mind waiting longer for a quality product. I would like to have seen more of the parts made in the U.S. though, just like the old IBM iron of yore. IBM has many plants located across the globe, through. Beam spring keyboards, for one, were ...

@orihalcon I'm having an issue with my xwhatsit Displaywriter controller and was hoping you could offer some insight. I had some chatter, and some keys not registering, but most registered fine, so I thought I would adjust the voltage. After setting the voltage to something like 80, none of the key...
