Service/Help for Model M screw mod?

Since I have purchased a Model F XT from Myoth I am very satisfied with the tactility of capacitive buckling springs and going from this I am convinced that my Model M is now in a need for a screw mod. I don't think that some rivets have fallen off, but I can't even open the case without the correct ...

ICan’t say I like those mismatched 1.5u mods on one side of the spacebar and 1.25u on the other, or Page Up not being above Page Down

As I have understood the description on the zFrontier page, you can remap keys with a so-called "Hera compiler", whatever this might be.

Question about keyboards with 70% layout

I really like keyboards with a 70% layout. I think that all advantages apply as they appear in the product description of the GMK UNIQUEY C70, which can be found here

- the keycap for "< ," (comma)
- the keycap for "> ." (dot)
- the keycap for "` ~" (prime)

I appreciate any offers! Many thanks in advance.

I thought there is a difference between function layers and ifselects. So in Muirium's example he defines how to enter ifselect_1 whenever he is in layer 0, by pressing Numlock. Afterwards he declares what should happen, when ifselect_1 is active. Once again layer 0 appears, that keeps me wondering ...

Thank you very much for your help, Muirium. I am really sorry for my silly questions. I am not quite sure what the part "layer 0" does. In the first part you assign "select_1" to num_lock. Then you define what is being remapped whenever you enter "select_1". But in both cases, what does "layer 0"?

I have understood how to remap certain keys, but somehow I am really afraid to upload a layout to the converter just for try and error. I am afraid of to break the whole thing and afterwards I can't use it anymore or would need a configuration file to have the default settings.

I have decided to work on Windows. Is your quoted part the same syntax for Windows using tinkerboy's converter? If not, what is the correct syntax?

Ok, I am trying to build my own remapping file under Linux (Ubuntu 18.04) and use it for tinkerboy's converter but I fail to find any good instructions how to behave under Linux. I only find some tutorials for windows like this one here:

I am really grateful for all the help and my Model F XT is finally working! I can't believe it and I am actually typing on it. It feels so great!

The advice with the metal ruler did the job and it worked on the first try. Now I am ready to play around with different layouts.

I have got one more question: How am I allowed to clean the the flexible matrix PCB and the flippers? May I use isopropyl for cleaning or might this cause any damage? What kind of rag should I use?

^^ Ok, thank you very much for your answer. I will try to do the procedure the way you have described it with the help of a metal ruler. I hope I have not already destroyed the matrix, for instance the flipper scratched the surface of the matrix.
