Depending on the characteristic of the mounted spring, the latency between pressing a key and it being registered can increase slightly.

Is this a known problem for IBM Model Fs as well? This is the first I've heard of it.

That screw/bolt mod looks quite different from anything I've seen before.

I could imagine wood would do something great for the sound! My IBM 5155 Model F chassis is all plastic and honestly sounds better than my XT and New Model F. A deeper, richer sound.

I haven't tried the New Model M, but I have some thoughts on Unicomp's keyboards vs. IBM's. Unicomp had some bad years, quality assurance-wise. No question about that.
