The NOS replacement beamspring Haata was talking about had the plunger held down with a rubber band to keep the fly plate from getting detached. Being held down for 20+ years could have weakened the beamspring.

Nope, it's Fujitsu peerless switches. Fujitsu leaf spring switches have a soft tap sound when the switch actuates.

The IBM industrial XT used Oak full travel membrane switches. These are different.
