Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project

Does it have trouble registering keys pressed in quick succession like the original beamspring boards? If you are talking about Thomas' original review video, that problem was because the solenoid extend/retract time was too slow to keep up with the keypresses. Once that setting was changed, it is ...

I'm not so sure. I've seen multiple restorations with red barrel plates and they always look bad to me. A muted gray or an electroplated look might be nice.
Really? I think these two look quite nice.

Re: 5000 AZERTY Keyboards NOS

You’d be surprised. They can be real buggers to pull off when you don’t know / have forgotten how. Yet they do come off quite often in shipping. Someone did a video of the particular technique they need for extraction a few years back. No luck finding it just now though. It’s *different* Thomas had...

Re: Best Keyboards Ever: A Deep Dive (Documentary)

IBM beamsprings have been made even in the mid-80's. See some IBM 3727 keyboards with the ^ symbol above the 6 instead of ¬. They switched over to buckling springs because it was too tall for the DIN standard. The height from the table to the top of the home row key must not be taller than 30 mm. Th...

Looks like a 122-key model F, but without the IBM logo in the top-right side. I tried to find which model F clone it could be, but i did not find any of 122-key variant. An easy way to see if the keyboard is any good is to look at the back. The back of this one is hollow. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1...

Re: Tips for Beginner Vintage Board Hunter

Keep in mind that just because a keyboard is old and has "mechanical" switches, it does not mean it is good. I can type faster on a nicely weighted rubber dome keyboard (eg. https://www.amazon.ca/WYSE-Thin-Client-Keyboard-KU-8933/dp/B01FDVF15E) than a poorly weighted mechanical keyboard. I have neve...

Re: Different types of IBM Beamsprings?

That is the only logical explanation, thanks hellfire. But do you think a lighter spring would make it "better"? I have some heavily used beamsprings that have lighter springs and some with less use that have stiffer springs. I do not mind the weighting myself, but some people prefer a lighter spac...

Since we are sharing Karabiner scripts, here are a few I use with my IBM AT and 5251. https://i.imgur.com/ppmzc5X.png Pressing and holding a key in the number row will trigger the corresponding function key. Re: Different types of IBM Beamsprings?

The NOS replacement beamspring Haata was talking about had the plunger held down with a rubber band to keep the fly plate from getting detached. Being held down for 20+ years could have weakened the beamspring.

Nope, it's Fujitsu peerless switches. Fujitsu leaf spring switches have a soft tap sound when the switch actuates.

Recently (couple hours ago) bought an F AT for $240 shipped and I considered that a deal. It's even missing the spacebar. That's not a good deal. You can get a model F AT for around $170 - $190 USD. Without the spacebar it would be around $140. https://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Personal-Computer-Keyboar...

Re: 'Vaporfly' switches - I want'em!

That will likely not translate well to keyboard switches unless you want tall switch modules with 300 gram actuation force. The foam is really dense to support your body weight. And if you are mushing the foam hard enough to get rebound, you are better off typing on a membrane keyboard as you will h...
