I have a bunch of G81's that I got for the caps. (Of course, and I can't imagine any other reason why to get one.)
Is there anything except the obvious (case, cable) that can be used as spare parts for G80 boards? Electronics, controller, whatever?
If not, I'll cut two of the better cables, keep two of the lesser yellow cases, and throw the rest away.
Any reason to keep G81 boards?

You can also strip off all the switches, insulate the plate and put them under the G80 PCB to make it more sturdy and eliminate flexing.

I have used the switches to try out new custom layouts cheap. Cut off all the legs from the switches and glue to a plate. The switches are practically 3/4" square at the base so you get spacing almost correct pretty easily.

I actively use G81 keyboards in my machine shop. They are great in dusty environments when your hands are not always clean. Also heavy springs are actually very good when your hands were doing some heavy work minute before, even G81 feels super nice and light then. And on top of that they're rather cheap in case they ever break, but I never had a failure on those boards.

I always figure them to be designed for German policemen. If you ever reported a stolen bike in Germany you know what I mean: The typical German policeman will peck-type in astoundingly slow speed but hitting keys with a force that shows the full power of what our constitution calls the monopoly of violence of the state.

Ah, the monopoly of violence. It's better the state has it than the local armed militia. Just look at what that exemption did for the US.
Our police over here are reduced to using stylus operated PDAs straight out of 2003, on which they hunt and peck just as slowly: on a virtual keyboard! Stabbing the plastic screen with a plastic pen, grumbling as they go. Too bloody right, this is the present!
"New technology" they told me, they miss their paper notebooks.
