Replacing top part of MX key of a DasKeyboard

Hello,

I would like to have your input on this. The Das Keyboard I received has a physical problem due to flaws in the plastic on the top part of the switch, as shown below. The result is that when the key is pressed, it often catches in the malformation and remains stuck or simply doesn't register properly.

I was wondering how difficult this would be to replace the top of the switch with a good one. I have seen contradictory statements about this in these forums or elsewhere.

Has anyone successfully opened a Cherry brown switch from above without unsoldering it from the PCB? And if so, what's the safest way to operate?

Thanks in advance for your advise!

Welcome to DT!
On a DAS you can't open the switch without desoldering, that's only possible with special custom plates.

Thanks for confirming that.

Do you have to have the DAS , you could send it back for a refund and get a Filco.

Yes, of course, I could have. But I wanted to see if a simple operation could work around this little problem (and to avoid shipping costs & delays). Besides, except this problem, the keyboard is really a nice piece of work.

The reseller helped fix it by cutting out the obstructing plastic malformation, it took a couple of minutes and now it works perfectly. Even easier than replacing the top part (if it were possible, which doesn't seem to be the case). It's fortunate, I don't think Metadot could/would have helped, or it would have taken ages. I must say I wasn't particularly impressed by the eagerness of their support. Or maybe they're just swamped.
