Currently sourcing parts to build my first ErgoDox. The switches I harvested from an old keyboard are MX blue's. Will start with these as I'd like to have the tactile, clicky feel for the ErgoDox.
But at home I'm currently using a tenkeyless Filco with red MX's that I really like as well. So my question is, if I can solder the ErgoDox with the blues and exchange the top later on with the reds if I decide to buy red switches?
AFAIK exchanging the head and the spring should give me red's without de-soldering the base. Can anybody confirm this assumption or correct me if I'm wrong?
Cherry MX blue base exchangeable with MX red top?

if there is no plate or a plate that allows you to exchange the top of the switches - yes.

Then it is no problem. And your plans are valid.
