I wouldn't say that Android is as proprietary as Windows, but almost as much as OS X for sure. The Linux kernel on Android can be likened to Darwin on OS X, but more of Android isn't proprietary. The VM, for example, is Free Software, and is one of the most important bits of Android. The main offenders are the Google apps and Google "play services" that underpin them, and they're the creepiest ones. Who'd've thunk it?
The whole of Android is a bit of a sham though, really. That's why I ditched the platform and went to Jolla.
Edit: I've just come back and seen the topic of this thread now... what happened here?!

we went off topic in a classic DT way! That´s what happened.

I agree with both of you on android. It has little to do with a linux distribution. It´s a google product all the way. I tend to use custom Android builds like Cyanogenmod. Less google in some of those! I "trust" some of those developers more than I do google. Why would they integrate something hidden in their ROM.

Vs. is internet speak for FIGHT!!!!
Spoiler: beamsprings are made of metal. I wouldn't wager much on a Topre keyboard wielded in anger against one of those.

Yeah, CyanogenMod is fantastic bunch. I'm really glad that they exist. I've used them exclusively on my Android devices for a few years now.

Call me a Luddite, but I like things that are old and solid and straightforward.
I am over 60 and my Galaxy is all but unuseable for me in many environments. Seeing the tiny tiny tiny markings (all but impossible to discern between different sub-legends for punctuation without my reading glasses) and hitting tiny tiny squares on a piece of glass with my large fingertips is incredibly frustrating.
Old-school keyboards with satisfying tactile response are extremely comforting to me.

People loved their horses too. They weren't gone from city streets for a generation. Must have been a messy time to be a driver!
Coming… soon… a redefining… moment… in all!… keyboard history. The!… Unicomp… space saver. Shipping… not as soon as we think!
Shatner… hmm… doesn't seem Topre to me. Maybe more like Unicomp.

seems that I am not one of the older members here at DT like I tought! Good to know that we have a nice spectrum of different ages here which brings more knowledge to the community.
good one! Of course Spock would win.
I'd like to see a fight like this (music and everything), but with keyboards instead. I think Spock/beam spring would win.

Why do IBM extremists, like me, always have to pick on Topre obsessives, like me? Can't we just leave us alone?
Let's all be friends and piss on MX together!
