Matteo brought it up:
deskthority-f17/frequent-timeouts-t12695.html
I get the same thing happening on my home broadband in Scotland, my brother's in America, and on both T-Mobile US and 3 when mobile here in Scotland. It strikes about one Submit in 50, I'd say. Same rate everywhere. And as I'm a frequent poster, PMer *and* editor, I hit it several times a week.
Lost text is fine. My browser's history works properly. But those attachments were lost to the PHPbb gods, visible only to me and Cassandra! Yuck.
This has been going on a long time — I clearly remember Beardsmore complaining about it, which would have been back in our US server days, and I once had Xwhatsit tell me about a great a PM wiped out the very moment he'd done writing it to me, argh! — but if anything it did seem to hit me a higher fraction of the time starting this winter. I should keep records. But I'm too busy writing before I hit the Russian Roulette button we call Sumbit.

If anyone would get a shiteload of it, you know who! Matteo has a mountain of PMs, and those are just as affected by the issue. Never happens in any circumstance other than hitting a Submit button.

Matteo's efforts with Chinese manufacturers are honourable, and his PBT Topre spacebars are epic, but when things like this happen it's because QC can't be done at a distance. We need our own capability. That's why I was so pleased to see Rsbseb take on the challenge. We need to do this stuff in house. For keycap nerds. By keycap nerds.
Completely agree with your sentiments on this but easier said than done, I suppose.
In any case, I'm a bit stunned by this but I won't pull out of the group buy as it seems to be more of an isolated case and it'd be dodgy to pull out of the GB now.
I'll be looking out for this though.
