More Topre clones on Ebay

I own the Novatouch and do most typing on it. I bought it for one reason only - no key chatter issues and a switch that basically cannot fail under normal use (at least I wasn't able to find any reports on that). As for the sound and feel, it does rattle and it is irritating. I probably would not mind, but thanks to you lot, who kept mentioning it here and in other places, I became aware of the problem and it has bothered me ever since.

I have tried silencing it with thin dental bands, but the result was weird and I ended up taking the mod of. The main problem with silencing this board is that, one you put something between the stem and the plate, the rattle is gone, but other issues appear. One is the inconsistency of the feel of some keys and their sound. For example, you cannot properly silence the 9 key, since there is no screw there that would hold this particular part of the PCB to the plate and the key is a tad louder on the upstroke. Same thing with the E key and also the S has some additional resistance before bottoming out. Also Z feels a bit mushy with the dental bands on. I did a thorough examination and found that it is caused by the screw placement. Another thing with dental bands is that you can hear the springs vibrate a bit with them. I guess this is caused by the rubber domes being slightly compressed all the time so the springs have a bit more lateral space to play.

On the bright side, keys have less wobble with dental bands, and the top of the keypress becomes a bit stiffer, so it's more like touch-typing. At the end of the day I still prefer a consistent board with as much keytravel as possible, so I ended up removing the bands. Rattle or not, typing feels better this way.

I think there is some potential with those Topre clones. Despite all it's flaws, I love the Novatouch and definitely prefer it to Cherry clears and even bucking springs... Ok, before anyone shouts 'heresy detected', I'll just say that it's more of a layout issue of the ISO Model M, than the switch itself.

Honestly, if I did not have my Novatouch and I was looking for something more reliable and cleaner looking than the gamer Cherry boards in my country, I wouldn't think twice about getting that Hansung Happy Typist considering the price Provided it was available locally of course - 23% tax on imported good is a killer, and right now the auction say $53 shipping).

I prefer to call it the MX RealForce. After all, It is the MX stems that make that board exciting to me. The fact that it will have RGB LED backlighting is a feature I will simply try to ignore/forget.

Considering that Realforce has decided to integrated those features into some prototypes, I am interested to see where they go with it. And hopefully you can turn off that backlighting if you want. Perhaps it is nice to have if you want to impress some friends/family/co-workers/ladies.

I'd never recommend dental bands as silencing! I've punched out 0,5 mm thick foam and it turned out just amazing.

I have to say that CM had their chance to ask us, what they did but they ultimately made 2 giant mistakes.

1. Didn't fix the rattle.
2. Put shitty caps on it.

Also I'd love to see Topre not join on the Gaming LED Christmastree circlejerk... it's just not right for such a classy brand.

Cookie, just kidding, the experience is fine. The dental bands I used were actually very thin, somewhere around that 0,5mm when stretched around the stems. I did compare how much space they take with pictures of other mods and I think that everything reduces the keytravel at least a little bit. One thing that might be an exception is paper tape, but as I said, silencing the Novatouch revealed a few other issues with it, so I'm not too keen on trying anything else. Again, the experience is fine, nothing I cannot live with.

As for the shitty caps, I don't find them shitty really, they are still better than the stuff other gaming gear manufacturers put on their boards.

Agreed on the LED circlejerk. People get hyped over it now, but in 2 years time, RGB lighting will be like spinners on car rims, or those awful PC cases from the early 2000s.

That Hansung appears to be the Korean version of the Plum 87 Topre clone, so perhaps you could find that one at a lower price. I have been able to compare my Plum 84 with a Realforce keyboard, and I hope to have a review posted within the next couple of days. My early conclusion is that the differences in the two keyboards are very noticable, and the Realforce is worth the extra cost, at least in my view.

Can't stand it in Mice and they are putting it everywhere. Might as well have RGB lights in your toilet, so that at night you could be amazed at the multi-coloured turds circling around as they are flushed away, with the music of Abba in the background .

I've tried some Korean dome sheet, their properties are similar to that of PLUM.
