Designing a completely new switch.

That's rich, an American criticizing an upcoming economy like China about pollution.

Not an American even though I live in a 3rd World Country that WORSHIPS them 24/7.

The USA has been the world's greatest polluter by far, and built all their riches from it, and the US Military is the biggest polluting entity in the world.

Totally CORRECT. I only mentioned how quickly the Chinese ignited their Industrial Revolution and have progressed FAR more than any other country in actually producing something (manufacturing) instead of gambling (playing) with money like the incompetent West has done.

They have also historically snubbed all environmental treaties of note, because money. And now they ruined the environment and it's probably too late, the SJW point to China... the hypocrisy is mind-boggling. Even if China will try very hard, they'll never be able to match what the West has done during peak-oil.

Of course I wasn't putting them (China) down but in my own (failed) way tried to praise them in what they achieved in such a very small period of time. Also agree about the West's constant intervention with other countries interests.

Just remains to be seen how desperate they (US, UK and their Followers) will become in trying to enforce their failed and inept hegemony, upon the rest of the free world.

This switch prints very easily.



The slider is really too tight inside the box, I had to use a ton of lubricant and still doesn't move freely. The stem cross is too bold too and doesn't quite fit the keycap. I also feel that the circle ridge around the stem is a bit too tight.

If you wanted to do a stable switch, you totally got it

Wow, thank you for printing it out so quickly
And interesting results... not only that the slider is way tight, but the stem as well... which means I have some adjustment to do now that the printed objects don't need to go through a polishing process like my previous SLS prototype, which apparently took out quite a bit of material on the surface, making everything a little smaller. Also with your printer, I don't have the 0.7mm minimum thickness requirement anymore, so I can make the circle ridge around the stem thinner.

Alright great! This is exactly the data I need, I'll go make the adjustments and will upload a new set of stls as soon as I can. Thanks again @matt3o, this helps me a lot

Definition of a 3RD World Country;

(1) slow pace of industrialization - Australia has gotten rid of many industries that actually produced goods or advanced manufacturing.

(2) low to very low levels of per capita income that is insufficient to generate savings for economic growth - We in fact can't invest any money here hence we are always open to foreign investment/capital.

(3) low literacy levels but high rate of population growth - Speaks for itself, very low IQ standard compared to elsewhere and education standards are some of the worst in the Western World. Population growth is increased mostly from other 3rd World Countries hence further cementing our 3rd World Growth.

(4) poor health facilities and transport infrastructure - YES due to no investment within either category for decades.

(5) dependence on agricultural and commodity exports as main foreign exchange earners - YES has been forever since Australia was first termed during the importation of British Convicts in the early days of this Colony.

So all of the ABOVE applies here. YES we are indeed a 3RD World Colony (not a country because we never attained separation from our British Overlords). Our Head of State still sits in Westminster, England hence it speaks volumes on who we really are in the world today.

I've uploaded a new slider with the adjustments to hopefully fix the issues you described. Do you mind help me out once more with printing the new slider and see if it's better? Thank you in advance

A quick update

I found a place on 3dhubs with pretty good printers so I was able to test the current design a bit more. I printed this prototype with EnvisionTec RC31 with 32nm layers, and result is not bad at all. The previous issues that matt3o found were fixed. I can mount keycaps properly and the fit is pretty good, the switch works properly even without lube and wobble amount is acceptable.
However, smoothness was not as good as I'd hope (considering the high quality of the print) so I wanted to make some more adjustments to reduce friction while trying to maintain stability.
Sorry to those of who are interested in the project as I'm taking this way slow... Each round of prototype is not cheap and takes quite a long time, so I need to make sure to think things through and don't make stupid mistakes, which cost a lot of time and money

So i have been thinking about the problem of switch stability for a while. I think the switch that got it right was the beamspring for two reasons, upward force being applied which is fully stabilized on the PCB and the force from the spring which is about 3x the diameter of a cherry spring. This spring adds a bunch of stability as well. So if I where to start from scratch I would start with a large spring and try to creat some additional force via plate spring which limits the horizontal movement of the stem.

What if you design the swich for a thicker PCB, something like .125" (3.175mm). That could provide some additional stability, maybe as stable as an aluminium plate.
