Replacement back label for model M

Hi! newbie here!

Just got my model m122 and aside from the label in the back is in perfect state for something that is 31 years old.

I was wondering if is an easy way to create a new label to replace the original one with the same information, barcode and such in an easy way that does not involve me and gimp for a month or two. It is for the UK so the sticker is just a piece or adhesive paper, not like the americans one that have a plastic piece over them.

I have a UK made, blue label Model M 122. I can try scanning the sticker for you so you can just print it out.

Here ya go, should be enough for you to work something out in Gimp. One scan for size reference and some pictures in better quality. Turns out the only scanner I have that fits this thing is kinda crap...

Also I have the doubt of what to do with the grounding wire... Should I connect it to the gnd ok the pro micro that translates the keys to hid?

Ahhhhh shame. I'm sure somebody else will be able to help you out. I'm not sure what grounding wire exactly you're talking about. Are you doing an internal converter?

I suppose that's how it can be called, I've removed the cable and used the pins to connect it to a pro micro (5v, gnd, data and clock) but there is a fifth wire, that was connected to the steel backplate with an screw that in the cable corresponds with the shield of the connector.

That's the one I'm unsure about, the grounding/shield cable

The one with the hole, it was bolted with one of the screws securing the pcb to the backplate

Yeah, that one should be GND. For reference check this post, where they told the guy to just solder a wire directly to the frame: viewtopic.php?p=459125#p459125

You don't need to go anything with that cable, as far as I know. I took mine off and the internal converter works fine. Here's an image of the sticker, although it's not in the best condition.

I have/had the same problem. My Model M losts its label some tome ago. I recreated it like this: viewtopic.php?p=476150#p476150

I have to aquire an thermal label printer to print it out. I tested a dot matrix printer and it did not look very good.

That one looks really good! Do you have something editable to not start from scratch?

On mine the outer and inner labels have different numbers? I do not know of that's as it should...

Thanks. I can provide you an LibreOffice Writer file. I know, not very sophisticated, but it worked for me very well. The barcode is in ITF format and starts with the part number.

If the outer and inner label numbers have to match, I'm unsure. I have to open another of my Ms to check.

Yes please, anything would be better than scratch, my label is in such an state that the barcode is not picked by the scanner, I need to do some work to get that information.

Never mind, a quick search shows that the internal and the external label part numbers differ, I guess because the internal one is refereed to the inners model and the external is the keyboard as a whole, with keycaps, region and such.

A little late to the party here, but my Model M came without a label so I have no hope of even reuniting it with its original serial number. I went for the next best thing, found an image of one of the right type, and created this by hand in paint shop pro.

Feel free to download and print yourself or for the cost of a stamp, I'll print it on my thermal label printer and post it to you.

Does anyone know if it's possible to send the bits directly to a dot matrix printer? "Image mode" loses a lot of the crispness and quality. I have an Epson LX-300 if that helps.
