First Mechanical Keyboard ISO Layout

I've always had very cheap keyboards (like the KB216), and I would like to buy my first mechanical keyboard. Nevertheless I'm not yet ready to have a fully customized keyboard.

After testing different switches, my favorite one is the Cherry MX Brown. Thus I'm looking for a keyboard with an ISO Layout (french if possible), full or TKL, with RGB lights.
If I don't find any FR-ISO Layout, it needs to be an other ISO Layout where I can easily change the keycaps : I will buy an adapted set.
Also I'm mostly running on on Linux, for everyday work and even for gaming (saying that because of RGB support).

The best one I've found so far was the Everest Core. Do you recommend it? I've seen some bad and good reviews out there.

Or do you know any other good alternative? My budget range is between 150€ and 200€. I could spend a little more if it is worth it.

You could always flag them as (expected) spam, all quiet like. ;)

Now we’re talking here, let’s see if they talk or edit in their usual links. That Reddit thread is so new they could just be human. Maybe. Call me naïve if you must.

I’m 99% sure you did the right thing. I would safely assume OP is spam, except for the (hours not days old) recency of the Reddit post they duped.

Looking at that post, the one comment there told them to go put it in the right section of the forum, which says to me they’re a Reddit noob, too. Extremely unlikely they’d then immediately register at DT, with a completely different username, and post it here instead of over in Ripster’s land.

Like a virus, the spammer’s having to up their game now we have immunity from their most basic attack. Copypasta, no matter how young, ain’t going to cut it.

Imagine this: new accounts can only edit their posts after 5 posts and 5 days of activity. That would kill the spam, cold dead. It’s always burners and the occasional spree with them.

Hmm. The Reddit user was recommended to ask in /r/Mechanicalkeyboards, and then reposted the post verbatim as a comment in /r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY question, get an answer.
That would indicate that the Reddit user could have a tendency to paste the same post to multiple forums.

I also found the post on StackExchange, new user there too, with different username, but listed origin: France.
I think the user is probably legit. Also, bots don't often repost such new posts.

Radically different user names at each site?

Anyway, I think we should be a little more cautious about freezing accounts. Sometimes people just really want attention and will seem like spammers. Let them prove that to be the case, before we whack them!

If in doubt: flag the post for expected spam *with* a comment to check back on it for links, later. I won't delete it till it does turn infectious. Hopefully my fellow mods agree likewise. ;)

For some spambots, it would prevent them from posting their intended payload — but not the initial post.

I believe there are also spambots out there that try to get around such limits by replying generic comments with little meaning to random threads for a few days before coming back and posting the payload. I've found (and reported) a bunch of such suspicious user accounts on Geekhack, for instance.

Oh yeah, I've definitely seen that here on DT, too. Sneaky ones will edit the payload *into* the quote blocks, so it's like us regulars are saying that guff. I suspect most of the remaining, undeleted spam on DT will now be that type.

I'm fairly certain these "bots" are just abused humans, based in Pakistan and similar, doing this "work" all day long at hundreds of sites. It's next to no effort for just us 3 mods to delete everything they now post. *Bots* could flood the forum with thousands of posts in no time. A machine-gun is a bot.

There’s an option for mods to prevent edits to a given post.
That’s what I applied to the opening post here, so if the user happens to be a spammer they simply won’t be able to add links.

Ah! Nice. Much better than freezing them outright. An elegant solution. ;)

So now we're several posts into this thread, discussing moderation, without even mentioning keyboards. Nice first impression of Deskthority, when our suspicions are occasionally proved wrong!

You should be aware that there are few mainstream keyboards with RGB backlighting out there that have a configuration program for anything but x86-64 MS-Windows. Some require /a part of/ the program to run in the background at all times for RGB backlighting to even be adjustable with keys on the keyboard.

I usually recommend Ducky or Varmilo, but there are lots of other options these days that I have no idea about.
