Whilst harvesting I accidentally ripped open one of the simplified alps..

This was in it :

That is obviously complicated white clickies.

The REAL question is what did you do to the BOTTOM of the case where the ALPS logo should be (probably Alps in a hand script font).

I agree, that looks quite complicated^^. I guess the ripsterian theory of 4 nubs=simplified doesn't hold air.

So yeah, what happened?! You seem to have absolutely destroyed the bottom!

I erm... sorta destroyed it when I ripped the PCB from the metal plate( it was a plate mounted keyboard ). That's what I found out works best, just desolder all the switches, then gently rip the pcb off. After that it's just easy to pop out the switches from the metal plate.
For this particular switch I forgot one solder point so it's innards clung to the pcb :-)
No worries, it prompted me to dive a little deeper into the whole Alps complicated/simplified thing.

One tiny point forgotten point, oh the implications. For one realising you've got complicated ones!
Nice technique though, seems like the way to go for sure!

The trick is to keep a screwdriver handy to pop the switch. But FIRST wiggle the contact to make sure all solder contact is gone.

And you will NEVAH get to the bottom of ALPs. It is like getting to the bottom of the EU Debt crises. Once you think you have it figured out some oddball country/switch of a different color pops up.

I'm very content with a shallow bottom ;-)

Wait.....
