wasd shipping price to europe

i considered ordering one of their custom keyboards until i noticed the shipping price to Austria: $50.

later i noticed that if you put "smaller" items in the shopping cart, the shipping is considerably less: $3 for a single cherry mx switch.

this applies to a full keycap set aswell: cheap shipping. it seems only their keyboards have the rediculous shipping costs. so, i'm glad we can get a good shipping price on their nice selection of smaller items. =)

the difference comes from:
USPS - First-Class Mail International Parcel** $3+
Priority Mail International $35.00+
Express Mail International $38.00+
probably based on the weight. but if you add a full keyboard they take away the USPS option in the shopping cart.

Interntational shipping, when done correctly, is not cheap. Not only does the raw cost from the shipper go up based on weight and volume, items should be insured for value and preferably tracked, and if you want something in a reasonably short time, you want airmail. Then there's import duty and taxes - all of which makes getting a keyboard from the US to this side of the pond a pretty pricey business. The cost of a Unicomp more or less doubles, for example.

from the USPS website: now i see why the first option isn't available to them for a keyboard. it is simply too wide: maximum length for first-class is 24 inches (~61cm). the other options classify as a large package... and cost considerably more.

a problem with the shipping costs is that it bumps it above the €150 mark, at which in some european countries extra import fees apply. would be neat if they can find a cheaper way to send it. i wouldn't mind waiting for an old-school boat shipment instead of air mail.

I think that First Class Mail International is airmail.
BTW, a small parcel (letter post) takes exactly the same time from the US to my location as First Class or Priority ... (except around Christmas when the mail is crazy)
