Rubber dome love?!

I think there comes a point in every enthusiast's career where he/she starts to develop an unusual horn for the strange/unlovable/ugly items in their field. Whether it be the car with a face that only a mother could love, the guitar that refuses to stay in tune or the operating system that's incredibly buggy and almost useless. We've all been there, and well, I'm fairly certain I'm there now.

I think I've now gone full circle as a keyboard enthusiast and now I've starting to appreciate non-mechanical keyboards again.

Recently, I've not been able to stand typing on cherry switches and I'm absolutely loving typing on my thinkpad keyboard! I've recently bought Javifast's IBM M4-1 he had for sale and I'm even started eying up this little beaut...



Also I've been typing on one of these in a lab I'm visiting.



They are surprisingly good?!

At first I thought I'd just fallen out with Cherry switches but it can't be this as I don't want to go back to topre either! I'm not almost certain that this is all about the low travel of the key and the low profile of the keycaps. There is just something about low profile keycaps that is really appealing to me at the moment.

I'm not sure if this is going to pass; I'm worried. Have any of you guys ever fallen off the mechanical keyboard wagon? Did you get back on? Do you have a dirty little rubber dome fav knocking about?

I'd just like to point out that Topres are rubber domes.

I had that comfort curve 2000 some years back and it was a really good keyboard imo.
But i just tried my old rubberdome board (logitech g15) which i loved before i got my mechanical and it was really
a pain and unsatisfying to type on after just 2 weeks of being on a cherry mx im rly surprised.

Was just using that myself. It was good but they keys were old, wobbly and dirty. I think the wave is quite nice too. Mech boards need more shape to em!

I've tried those MS boards with stupid sized keys — really annoying. Rubber domes can be good (else nobody would appreciate Topre), but I wouldn't rate Microsoft's as the best. By far not the worst, but not the best. I've often mentioned that the Dell KB-1421 is a decent dome, with a light and smooth feel similar to Topre variable, and low-profile caps. If it wasn't that my Filco with browns cost me £110, I would have quite possibly switched from a Filco to that Dell rubber dome just because browns are so limp. However, I've since moved to clears instead.
