Help with HHKB key order

Cleaning my HHKB yesterday I did not take the usual precautions in regard to keeping the keys in order and now am sure I have the keys back in place incorrectly.

The keys are labelled by row a to e from the bottom with the home keys f and j labeled "c 10" the remaining c row are from "c 5" to "c 13" I have assumed they are lower in the middle to high at the outer edges with my current layout of the c row from control to return:

c 1.75, c 13, c 12, c 10, c 10, c 5, c 5, c 10, c 10, c 11, c 12, c 13, c 22

The c row look close to correct I have used the same system on the other rows but it does not look correct.

Can someone please point me in the direction of the correct layout? I have attempted to find this information with no luck.

Thankyou for your help.

I don't really know what you're asking but can't you just look at this picture and make it look like that?

I'd say that he's talking about the numbers stamped underneath the keycaps and he probably has an "otaku" HHKB.
I don't think it matters which number goes where. On the board I'm on right now, this is the numbering:
  • A - 5
    S - 7
    D - 13
    F - 1.0 / 2 (top right)
    G - 14
    H - 14
    J - 1.0 / 1 (top right)
    K - 1
    L - 8
    ; - 12

Thanks 002, and yes blank keys.

I did not notice until I had them in the incorrect order but each key is different in height and orientation the keys look really strange if I just stuff them back on in a random order.

The higher number keys are taller I had assumed a dish shape but the layout is now higher in the centre with valleys for the longer fingers and again at the edges.

I have contacted pfu to get a definitive answer will let you know how I go.

If you could put the numbers for your other keys up 002 that would be great but I know it is a bit of an ask so will not be disappointed if you do not

Thanks again.

Does it not just have normal contoured rows?

I would have imagined that you'd just sort the keycaps into matching groups and identify the rows.

Daniel Beardsmore: The row profile yes a-e like the wiki for topre, but there also seems to be a column profile with the keys under the longer fingers lower down.

I will add these details the wiki once I have the info.

Hmm very strange - I'm pretty sure that all keys on a single row should have the exact same dimensions (with the exception of the modifiers and larger keys).
The board I'm on right now is the 10th Anniversary JP Realforce so some of the keys are set out differently on the right but here are the numbers anyway:
Spoiler:
1 - 10
2 - 9
3 - 11
4 - 16
5 - 11
6 - 10
7 - 14
8 - 11
9 - 14
0 - 15
- - 13
= - 10
Q - 6
W - 14
E - 3
R - 13
T - 16
Y - 2
U - 2
I - 12
O - 5
P - 5
[ - 14
] - 13
A - 5
S - 7
D - 13
F - 1.0 / 2 (top right)
G - 14
H - 14
J - 1.0 / 1 (top right)
K - 1
L - 8
; - 12
' - 11
\ - 9
Z - 7
X - 7
C - 5
V - 11
B - 11
N - 4
M - 7
, - 5
. - 7
/ - 6
I'm still not convinced that there is any difference.
I have a set of Topre otaku keycaps in the cupboard that I haven't moved from their original positions so I can check the numbers on them later.

Someone needs to actually write something about the HHKB at all. I cleaned up webwit's empty HHKB pages (redirected them all suitably to slightly-less-empty pages) but I've never owned one, so you can have this honour :)

I did study some photos of them, so the column profiles are either very subtle or only on certain models. It's certainly not an obvious feature — maybe something that everyone overlooks.

I just had a look at the blank set I have and the numbers are all over the place so I really don't think the number has anything to do with key placement. Happy to be proven otherwise but 'til then I think it's in your head, 0x3e :)

It's interesting that your numbers seem to have a pattern though...maybe some OCD guy was in charge of putting the keycaps on the boards that day?
