A dual in-line package switch, or DIP switch, is a miniature bank of switches in the same form factor as a DIL integrated circuit (microchip). In computer keyboard usage, DIP switches are provided on some keyboards to provide permanent configuration changes that do not require operating system reconfiguration or the need for flash or battery-backed on-board memory to retain settings.
