Re: finally the kishsaver (or 60%) has been completed

Few questions: 2. When changing over to the capacitive PCB, are you using the Model M flipper or Model F? It will be the Model F's flipper, as both serve different functions. The M's hammer strikes a membrane, whereas the F's flipper is made of a capacitive plastic that causes a change in capacitan...

Re: Re:

I see now how one might misunderstand this question. Of course stabilizers clip to the PCB and screw-in stabilizers are only found on old boards. No, I meant clipped as in, modded, "legs clipped". A popular mod that I feel is essential to removing Cherry stabilizer mushiness. According to reviews, ...

Hello Deskthority Users, During my attempt to restore an IBM Model F XT I realised that the cable needed replacing. I anyone has a spare cable (or two) that they would be willing to ship to Canada would be greatly appreciated. My offer is 30 dollars US (not including shipping) for a cable in decent...

Yeah, this is a truly fascinating build. I cannot believe the effort that went into making a custom board with notoriously unreliable, yet rare switches. I've never tried Omrons, but they must be nice.

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I have only ordered the "PANIC" keys from unicomp, and I bought them in every color. None of the legends are printed in the same position. They honestly look atrocious as they are off center on both axis/axes?. I don't have any normal legend keycaps, but these novelty keys are really bad. They even ...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

The text alignment on some of the keys is clearly off. For example my Q is practically touching the top-left corner. The shift and caps lock keys have their text too high, and not vertically centered. But most of the keys have good enough alignment. And since I rarely look at the keys, I rarely not...

I'd love to get a black FC900R and stick Zilents in it. Never tried a Leopold or Zilent switches, but I have a feeling it would be a good match.

Re: I want to purchase a good keyboard! Help??

If you're looking for a straight upgrade from a cheap rubber dome keyboard, those tacky Chinese gamer keyboards are hard to beat. They have switches that are clones of the ubiquitous Cherry MX switches. They're usually just as good, if not better than the real deal, as the linear switches have less ...

Re: I want to purchase a good keyboard! Help??

Hey everyone! I built my first PC a year ago and started out with very backs peripherals. I’ve already upgraded my mouse to a good Logitech (I can’t remember what type) and now I’m looking to upgrade from the standard $15 membrane keyboard to a good mechanical keyboard. Anyone have any suggestions ...

I'm a gamer and power user I have to say since switching to a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX reds ther'es no going back to rubber domes. Now I use an IBM keyboard with Capacitive Buckling springs and it is pure typing/gaming heaven really it doesn't get much better than an IBM Capacitive Buckli...

Yeah, as long as the barrel plate isn't flexing when you drill, you should be alright. At least with the Model F bolt mod, cracking wasn't a concern.

Get a replacement but use this one for practice. Yeah, I suppose since I'm already this far I might as well. I've seen some people say that theirs works fine even with a crack after a bolt mod, we shall see. There's no reason why it shouldn't work - I suppose it's like a crack in the case. It's the...

Re: Are there any benefits to having a mechanical keyboard if you're not a heavy gamer or aren't a power user

Plus, there's a lot to choose from. Everyone's different. I like my tanky IBM keyboards almost exclusively, whereas others can't stand them. It definitely makes the hobby much more interesting, as a lot of what people want in a keyboard is subjective. If you want something sleek, modern and durable,...

I actually think Model M keyboards are super easy and convenient to clean for several reasons. I simply let the keycaps soak in boiling water with Fairy Liquid, although I'm sure there are more elegant solutions out there. :P The case does not scratch easily, so you can be as rough as you want with ...

Black IBM Battleship Model F

So after drooling over another user's black F122, I decided to do something similar with my 4980 Model F. https://postimg.cc/gallery/3iub1ti5w/ With the help of Troy at Unicomp, I ordered a custom set of keycaps. I said I wanted as many sublegends as possible, as I love the cryptic terminal legends....

Unicomp—incompetent as they are—do in fact sell SSK barrel plates. They just don't know what they are. I haven't dealt with them all that much, but the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Re: Some bolt modding questions

If you decide to do a bolt mod, I highly recommend using a soldering iron with a old sharp tip to melt some pilot holes for the drill. Use the tip to melt a bit of the plastic for each hole. If you don't, it's very easy for the drill to slip off the smooth plastic and make a janky shredded-up, poor...

After ~5 years of extensive use and abuse only 3 keys had minor chips in their label. I lost the upper part of the L’s label, a third of the O’s label and half of the ,’s label. Not too bad IMO. I’ve seen a lot worse with less usage.

Imagine trying to make that sound positive.
