Re: Modern Beamspring? - The Silo Beam Switch

Oh, good, this is public now. I've already commented on the board itself. It incorporates about 90% of the feedback from the XMIT Hall Effect boards. I wouldn't do analog sense but HaaTa has wanted to do it for ages. The switch as you see is made by Kaihua. The story here is that at CES in 2018 I br...

Hi iMav! Life is full of ups, downs, and haters. Be true to yourself and give it time. Lurk if you want, up to you, I personally don't see the need. If in doubt go back to what brought you here in the first place: love of keyboards. Thanks for stopping by!

Re: Hall Effect Keyboard Sensing and Wiring Explained

You can do this. The other simple solution is to just have each Hall sensor drive a FET and then scan it like a plain old matrix.

IBM Model Fs have hardware capable of NKRO. I can't recall offhand if the XT or AT controllers actually supported this.

Re: Alps ultrasonic cleaning

Yeah, I've done this a bunch of times. You can clean the switch top housings and the tactile leaves as well. But be really careful to not lose them. I wouldn't bother with the contact plates, or trying to separate them from the bottom housings. If you want to clean those last two components, I'd use...

Very nice, thanks for the review! If price is the worst thing we can say about it, it's a good board. I hope to pick up an R2 at some point.

Hmm. UPPER as a modifier is interesting, along with other Space Cadet mods like TOP and GREEK. It certainly fits on a smaller key cap.

The contact did eventually return my messages. He's been super busy. Also, he's liquidating the storage unit. He's already either sold all the interesting boards (Model Ms, an F XT, a couple of Alps), or is listing them directly on eBay. I didn't find any interesting terminals. I went out there toda...

Hello old friend! :ugeek: I'm a man of extremes, so, it's either no modifiers, or all of them. Super+Hyper+Top+Front+Greek+Apple+Open Apple+Option+Control+Tab is the only correct option for CapsLock. :evilgeek: Joking aside, I think it should be called "Capitals", not "Caps Lock". The next key set I...

I haven't checked the design in a while but this was built from the ground up to address all the concerns I had with the APT manufactured boards. Stabilizers and rattle were among those concerns. Firmware and programmability were the other big ones.

Re: Keystone Hall-Effect Keyboard.

No, I haven't tried one yet. With a third kid here - and a crummy job, which I recently quit - I've not had time to do this design justice myself. I know the IC crew and worked with them to spec out what this board could be. If and when I can get my hands on one I'll do a proper review. I can't say ...

Sweet, it's public now. I collaborated a little bit with IC to provide some design input for this board. Though I admittedly did very little, spiritually this is what I consider to be what Round 3 would have been of my boards. Great job IC team!

There was that time that a mockingbird flew into my garage when I had the big door wide open. I was able to close the door and catch the mockingbird! He was NOT happy. But I think his priorities were escaping and pooping, not destroying my keyboards.

I won't complain about the Beamspring prices (since I traded you a pile of really nice boards for one) but will say: we've come a long way since 2015.

GLWS. Please do tell us about the boards you've decided to keep - in another thread perhaps.

Well I guess that's not entirely true. I got a NIB Model M with Trackpoint, back in 2003 or so, for about $20. I ended up selling it at some point. Even then I preferred the older, heavier Ms! But you won't find a Space Cadet there, that's for sure. When I stopped going it was getting taken over by ...
