The crusher wins again

I purchased a very nice, new in box NTC-6151EN yesterday on eBay. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/281835864325) At least I thought I had, until I received a PayPal refund and this note from the seller:

Hello, I regret to tell you that the keyboard was mistakenly send to the recycler this morning. I bought a pallet of computers and accessories Monday . I was starting to list a few and send the rest to the scraper. My son took the whole pallet this morning. Sorry. I will cancel order and send you a full refund.

Lost another one.... :(

Were they blue Alps? That'd be a real shame. Can't see dick in your ebay link any more.

It would be a little disturbing if you could see dick.

I don't know. I was hopeful, but I will tell myself they were OA2's to ease my mourning.

Jeez what a moron. I'd love to own the NTC-6151 in real good shape. Unused Alps are pure gold.

I own that board with blue Alps, but it's in bad shape.

Ask for contact info for the recycler, or otherwise contact some of the recyclers local to him.

Very true, there still may be time to save the board yet. Unlikely it arrived straight into the crusher's maw. It'll be in a big pile somewhere, waiting its turn.

Could also be the case that the seller suddenly "discovered" that his keyobard could be worth a lot more. The accidental crusher story seems a little strange. But who knows.

well, I didn't think about the seller actually wanting a better deal, but it may be the case.

If this would happen to me here in germany, I wouldn't let him get away that easy. You had a deal and "Oops, sorry!" doesn't make that deal null and void here. It is his job to get it back from the recycler, not your's.
I wouldn't be happy with just getting my money back. I would certainly hand this to ebay if I wouldn't get the board, since it was a potentially rare and sought after board in good condition, aparrantly NIB. Its value was higher, it was yours and he gave it to the recycler!

I may just be old, but that isn't how I operate. I tend to think people are generally good and that mistakes are made. I have made similar mistakes and appreciate people who do not react in an adversarial manner. My money was returned promptly, so I am satisfied. I have no way of knowing the details of the situation, so I will trust that he is being honest with me. If he is not, that's on his conscience; mine is clear.

I was also stung badly by the crusher not too long ago. My good buddy at Topre was going to send me a box of assorted OEM keyboards for nothing but the boss-man said they have to be destroyed :(

This was the haul:

Ouch. Nice haul it would have been too… that sixty! The Sony News is pretty fancy, and the slim ones in the second pic. I wouldn't say no to any of the bunch, that's for sure.
Aw booger.

Yeah I think I broke into a cold sweat just as they were crushed thousands of kilometres away :(
I actually have some of those boards already. The compact and numpad in the top-left of the first pic, the Hi-Pro in the bottom-left of the top pic, the Hitachi and Sony News boards. The others I've never seen before, but I suspect that the bottom-right one in the top pic might be an NEC PC-98 board of some sort. Oh well -- I'm sure an opportunity like this will come up again...right?...RIGHT?

Shit like this should be illegal. But why would even you want to destroy something so bad? Are there some fines your company has to pay if you don't recycle a bunch of keyboards every couple of years?

Top picture top left, now that's my kind of miniature board ! Just look at that space bar!

Do you actually miss a spacebar when it's less than 8 units long?

I like to be able to reach it no matter where my hands are on the keyboard !

You're going to have to up your game a bit if you want the Best Photo DTA…

What's up with the two-tone black keys? Weird choice.

That's not my photo. I wish I had a typewriter with Power-Space. I could use a Power-Space right about now. (...just to show my power)

well, I wouldn't just assume he is a bad guy. He probably just made a mistake, everybody does once in a while, me not excluded. And in his case I would offer a refund just like he did. But if in this case you as the customer said you still wanted the board, I would go the extra mile and call the recycler, go there, and grab the board you wanted. Because - you know - I made a mistake.
I don't assume everyone is the bad guy, but I assume half of them are as lazy as me at first. I see the full refund as the cheap way out for him.
But as long as you are satisfied, do it your way and stay easy. ;)

I was wondering where that one went! I had an NTC 6151N that I bricked in the past, so naturally, seeing any 6151s pop up piques my interest. I have already gained a new love in the Fame board I have, but I still appreciate the NTCs I see popping up.

I thought it was mighty strange that I couldn't find it anymore after a couple of days, even after performing a completed listing search.

Wow, I never would have imagined it suffered such a fate. NIB and everything. For shame!

Would its fate have been different if I bought it instead, or would I be the one having to deal with the news?

Sorry to hear about this though. Poor NTC :(

TOPRE MADNESS
Wow. How far back does the Topre switch go? These seem really vintage and talk about unique. That was very nice of your friend to offer all of that! Sorry to hear that it all went to the crusher.
