I reorganized the ClickyKeyboards workshop this weekend and did not get a chance to do the usual work of IBM model M keyboard restoration, but instead I made the time to collect some technical data on weights and measurements comparing three different model M keyboards.

Thank you for this analyze!

Is the weight (without cable) variation is only due to the plate tickness variation?

The weight of the keyboard was measured both with and without the cable.

The 1388032 was originally bundled with the black SDL to AT cable.
The 1391401 was originally bundled with the extra-long SDL to ps/2 cable.
The 42H1292 has a permanently attached ps/2 cable.

That's interesting, I didn't know about the plate thickness.

Now of course you'll have to weigh all the individual parts...

P.S. How many rivets fell off during those measurements?

No keyboards were harmed in the making of this analysis. Any missing rivets (less than 4-6) were drilled out and replaced with M2 screws and I hope that all will live happily ever after.

:D But... If someone wants to volunteer their 1388032 or any other 1985 early model M keyboard for destructive testing.
