Some time ago I read an thread here where someone added lock lights to an M or an M122 by wireing it up and placing LEDs right under the appropiate keys, like Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. I'm sure someone else read this thread too. I used several search terms but I cannot find this thread anymore.

As it happens my very own M122 is in need of an screw mod and it would be the perfect opportunity to equip it with lock lights. My board has an Soarers converter in it and I'm searching for cable routing advices for not interfering with either the key caps, the hammers or the membrane sheets.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24927 Might have been this thread using a pro micro. Use a bright LED.

Unfortunately not. There were pictures in the thread showing how the wires were routed either on top of the barrel plate or on the underside. I'm unsure. The LEDs were glued using hot glue afair and when finally assembled the LEDs shined below the keycaps which looks very cool.

On the Pro Micro side I'm ready to go; I have tested it and it works. You just need to connect an LED to A0, A1 and A2 (on the Pro Micro) and all the LEDs use a common ground. I just need to know how to route the wires to the LED positions the best possible way.

The case doesn't fit snug between the barrel plate so the wires can go between the barrel plate and the case without clearance issues so you can route it any way you want. For the caps lock key, I just routed it under the assembly because the curvature has enough room to route the wires under the keys and I just used black tape to secure the LED.

Today I have a free day so I could work on my M122. I've done a screw mod cause of some missing rivets and the need to change the single plus key to a double width one as on every number pad.

After that I soldered some kind of cable harness. Not the prettiest but it works. Partially assembled and a quick test shows a working "LED mod". :P

The caps are in the dish washer at the moment so I have to wait to take a final picture. My Pro Micro is based on Soarers at the moment. As this is abandoned for a long time would it be wise to switch to QMK? I found an nice web based configurator. Its tempting.
