The sole purpose of making counterfeits is to make money, whoever made those keyboards, why they chose Blue Alps? Wasn't cheaper altanative available at the time?
Indeed mass production keyboards will become rare as time elapses, but so rare? only 5 pieces known to even keyboard collectors and ...

I don't think they are counterfeits
It is a high possibility because they usurp part number 1390131 and lack a serial, which is NOT an ALPS-based keyboard. And the IBM Japanese ALPS keyboards actually had dedicated proper part numbers and serials.

Also, there are inconsistencies with the ...

You need to be taught grammar to know how to teach grammar. Intuition is almost incommunicable.

Unless you study grammar in an academic way.

Have you ever used a C64 keyboard? The 'shift lock' key on the far left uses a latching mechanism (that was my introduction to switches like that; it's nice and tactile unlike the rest of the keyboard which uses linear springs and nothing else).

Wow, thanks for sharing. How would you say the most recent Thinkpad keyboards compare to these? And maybe the last generation of the classic keyboard?

This is my take on it after having used a bunch of the newer Lenovo machines (again there'll be some personal bias since I'm fairly picky).

ThinkPad Keyboards and Switches

Over the years people who've known me given me old ThinkPads, and other ones have been sniped on ebay when cheap enough--and in one rare instance the ebay seller gave me extra stuff after the auction ended! If he would have listed the whole lot of ThinkPad stuff there's no way I'd have gotten it as ...

Creating '3D' IBM Model M oval badges (from an existing imprint)

This is pretty weird... I was gutting a PS/2 Model 30-286 ready to dispose of the remains (long story which isn't relevant here), when I noticed the rear of the case! A perfect negative of the Model M badge in 3D .

If it isn't a knockoff, is it possible that the owner just stuffed a Fujitsu Peerless assembly into a Model M case? That there are two sets of LEDs is pretty sketchy to me as well.

The internal assembly might be from an ISO Tandy Enhanced keyboard, which looks almost identical to a Model M to me ...

*barf*
I had no idea there were IBM branded Fujitsu Peerlesses. Nasty.

EDIT: What's sort of sketchy is the fact where the fujitsu logo goes, there's and LED indicator strip. Why would a production keyboard have two sets of redundant LEDs , or false ones? Clearly that keyboard has them under the ...

It's missing the LED indicators, which would be typical of terminal boards, though the keycaps don't have any unusual legends or the two 1u keys in place of the numpad +. I wonder if it speaks AT or XT.

Not all terminal Model Ms omitted the LEDs. For instance Model M 1390120 can operate on the ...

Interesting I didn't know there are so many variants.
It's only natural with a product made for so long.

Also, the trapezoid mice have two major versions too. The earlier ALPS-made ones are more desired for the solid click. They can be identified with their cord and the rear of the mouse ...

Great review as always, my only criticism would be that the M2 wasn't exclusively a cheaper keyboard, but also to fulfill a smaller form factor. If you recall, the M2 was released as a redesign specifically for the PS/1 systems and actually borrowed from the PS/55 5576-003 keyboards (which are very ...

I'm not sure PBT is much harder than ABS is. I'd be very surprised if ABS keycaps couldn't stand up to the stress of the buckling spring mechanism.

It has to do with the resilience to mechanical wear, ABS is terrible at it. Eventually the ABS buckling spring key stems would start to hollow out ...
