Re: Alps Appreciation
@//gainsborough: Back in 2016, I discovered a Leading Edge DC-3014 that had white Alps switches. It seems to have been stock and not Frankenswitched. @Chyros: Agree! I also like the DC-2014 -- I like the form factor and general aesthetic, but I have some trouble typing on its particular layout. Here...

Does anyone here know where to find stepped 1.5u Ctrl/Alt keys, like in this picture? https://www.modelfkeyboards.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/DSC_6527.jpg I have mine ordered from Unicomp Likewise, I got some of these from Unicomp. I got unprinted, but I think they have printed or unprinted in v...

@Coeus: I've been using an Iogear 4-port KVM swtich to switch among 3 computers (2 running Linux; one running Windows) sharing a keyboard and mouse. I use only K, M, and audio switching; I don't use video switching. I have a triple-monitor setup with the computers connected in such a way as to permi...

I also agree with davkol. In addition, I have used various other gaming mice for years on my setup that includes a mix of Linux, Windows, and Mac computers sharing a keyboard and mouse. I don't game, and so I am indifferent to any gaming features that might require drivers or other software for Linu...

@Gurbsordidity: I mentioned in a fairly recent post that the medium-size plexiglass "roofs" formerly sold by the now-defunct Elite Keyboard company fit perfectly on a F62 standard-case keyboard. I think that the full-size covers might fit the standard-case F77, but I have not tried this. @darkcruix:...

Re: [FS] NOS Zenith Z150
I must say, the Zenith black labels are beautiful boards. If only they had a US ANSI enter with a full-size backslash (which I like to remap as backspace). I've click-modded mine and installed a Teensy (which you apparently don't need on your board). Best wishes for a smooth sale. Someone is going t...

@Scarpia: Sorry that the new Model F keyboard has ruined Topre for you. My own experience in going back and forth between Topre (HHKB Pro Hybrid Type-S) and my F62 has been different. Re: [SORTED] CM Storm QuickFire Rapid keyboard
@phinix: Bravo! Excellent score. Although I am not a fan of Cherry mx, I think the CM Quickfire series was rather good -- a very sold board. Moreover, there are drop-in programmable controllers available such as the Frosty Flake. It's unfortunate that CM stopped producing the original QF boards, but...

Re: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid keyboard
I saw a QF Rapid and a QF Stealth recently on eBay (US) for quite reasonable prices, considering that these keyboards have apparently been discontinued and all the vendors I've looked at are sold out. Shipping to the UK along with the import tax might add quite a lot to the cost, however.

@SneakyRobb: The shape of the flipper looks good. However, does it have capactitive properties? The model F flippers have either carbon black or short carbon fibers added to the plastic to impart electrical capacitance. Have you added either of these ingredients to your resin?

@SneakyRobb: I agree!
Imagine playing your keyboard in this room:
Of course, it's the inside of a violin. I've often thought it would be good to create a keyboard case with a resonating chamber and a moveable sound post, like that found inside a violin, for tuning the acoustics.

Re: Good Case Acoustics for Alps Boards?
The cheapo plastic case might actually give you the best acoustics. CNC aluminum looks nice and it gives heft to the board that many people like, but I think metal cases are overrated. I value acoustics over mere poundage (although I am typing this on my new F62, which has a cast zinc-alloy case tha...

Thanks, @darkcruix! Your photos confirm what my poor eyesight was telling me.
However, the thick font on the new key doesn't look like dye bleed to me. It seems too consistent. It's as if they were using bold face or some heavier variant of Helvetica.

Yep, the legends are too close to the top, and horizontal placement is inconsistent. The weighting of the typeface also seems too heavy. I am looking at the legends on my IBM XT keys, and they appear to be thinner.

@gianni: I definitely agree with your qualitative assessment of the sound and feel of Model F vs. Model M switches: "The F feels more precise with a sharp metallic click; the M feels raspy with more of a plastic on plastic sound." This is exactly how I would sum up my impressions of the two switch t...

Here are the closest quantitative comparisons I could find between Model M and Model F switches with respect to peak actuation force and total energy (area under the force-displacement curve).
