Re: Recommendation for Mac OS mechanical keyboard

Hi guys, I'm new on here, I've tried searching for this topic but did not really find anything. Could you recommend a good mechanical Mac OS compatible, backlit/rgb, mechanical keyboard? In terms of switches I am not very experienced, let's just say that I don't want the loudest ones and I would pr...

@Chyros: Yep, it's high time someone took on this task. As one chemist to another, I think you are the man for the job, and I look forward to seeing your analysis.

@Menuhin: Indeed, "moderation in all things"is a good mantra.

Re: Realforce R2 PFU Limited Edition

Hello everyone, First of all excuse me if I make any English mistake since it's not my mother tongue. I purchased a brand new Topre Realforce R2 PFU limited edition (R2TLSA-US4-BK-L) with grey and blue keycaps (apaprently it was made with or for Leopold but it's still a Realforce). It's awesome and...

Re: Questioning the lubing of switches

I have a series of videos planned for the future about restoring Alps switches, and in one of them I'm going to do a side-by-side comparison of different lubricants (which I'm in the process of acquiring atm). I also want to use that opportunity to talk about how lubrication works and what the diff...

Re: TMK keyboard firmware collection

@hasu: Any progress yet on the issue with the USB-USB converter and a RF R2 keyboard not being recognized when rebooting or when using a KM switch to switch among computers that are sharing the keyboard? I am still finding it necessary to unplug and replug the USB-USB converter whenever I reboot or ...

Re: Questioning the lubing of switches

If you use liquid lube and if dirt then gets inside the switch, it could become suspended in the lube and act as an abrasive. Alps switches are more sensitive than Cherry mx (or its clones) to dirt. For Alps switches, many people recommend using a dry lube such as quick-drying suspensions of teflon ...

Re: Soarer's converter and FN key

Hello all. I believe this is my first post here. I just have a quick question about the soarer's converter, which I'm using on an IBM Model F (XT). Ideally, I would like to make the LSHIFT + F9 and LSHIFT + F10 combos work as F11 and F12. I've achieved a somewhat satisfactory operation by mapping t...

Re: Why can't modern Mechanical keyboard build like Northgate Omnikey?

It is odd how fashions and expectations change. In desktop PC computer systems for Windows and Linux, I think that the build quality of the CPU unit is about the same or perhaps better than it was in the 80s or 90s, and the capabilities of the hardware are vastly superior now to what they were in th...

Re: Looking for reccomendations for good, solidly built keyboard chassis

I second the motion made by Wazrach regarding the IBM Model F XT. Before getting into keyboards in a major way, I had used Model M boards at work for several years. After deciding to make keyboards an obsession hobby, the XT was my first refurbishing project. I found one for $19 on eBay. It worked o...

Re: Looking for reccomendations for good, solidly built keyboard chassis

If you would be willing to go with Alps switches, the Northgate Omnikey 101 US ANSI is one of my favorite full-size vintage keyboards. It is also one of the most solid keyboards ever made. It comes with SKCM white Alps switches -- not much need to change these or do anything to them unless you prefe...

@Zed: Regarding a "Hyper" key, I was thinking of the same size as the bottom-row Ctrl and Alt modifiers. A 1u size would be rather small for a text legend of five characters. Thanks.

Re: Topre 45g vs 45g Silenced

@HungerMechanic: I agree with nik137. I have also found that careful lubing along with installing silencing rings adds to the improvement of silencing rings alone. I use SuperLube 51010 synthetic oil for the switches and SuperLube 21010 synthetic grease for the stabilizers. My first Topre-switch boa...

Re: Realforce R2 PFU Limited Edition

@Elrick: That's a beautiful keyboard! 45g is my favorite switch weight in Topre. I have an all-55g RF and an HHKB that I modded with 55g domes. I enjoy the extra tactility, but over the long haul, I prefer 45g. However, I have not tried the high-profile Topre keycaps. I wonder if they add enough wei...

Re: Realforce R2 PFU Limited Edition

My R2 PFU is not the Leopold version. My spacebar sound is consistent between right and left presses.

I have made several purchases of keycap sets from Widebasket in the past. I have always had a good experience ordering from him. He packs things very carefully and sends them promptly.

Yes, I might be interested in 1-3 sets in HHKB style. If there were sufficient interest, could the price be reduced for complete sets as opposed to buying individual special keycaps?

I am not sure, but I think that Hasu might be willing to solder diodes for you if you request this at the time of ordering from him and for an extra fee for the labor and solder, of course. Has anyone here tried the XD64 ver. 3 PCB? It has the advantage of presoldered diodes, but as a "universal" PC...

Re: An Unsaver... finally...?

Congrats!!! IBM cases can usually be repaired rather well with epoxy, which can also look fine after sanding and painting -- if you don't mind painting, thus departing from the vintage purity of the original. As one who paints vintage cases with disregard for tradition, I would not cast stones at you.
