I'd say the same. The HHKB essentially is a normal "standard" keyboard (albeit a small one). So typing in whatever layout, like QWERTY or Dvorak, is just like typing in that layout on a bigger keyboard.

I myself prefer Dvorak-like layouts over Qwerty or a 'better Qwerty' such as Colemak. I also ...

I assume you're talking MX Cherry type keycaps?
- You might specify what sort (DSA, SA, DCS) and what Rows you are looking for.
- the easiest thing would be to use standard keycaps (60% / 75% / 100%, possibly even Ergodox) keycaps. For the middle keys you'll have to find some other solution ...

Learning a new keyboard layout is an alpha-nerd pursuit.

I came across a nice article in Popular Mechanics . It's about the Colemak layout, but it's interesting for non-Colemak user (such as me, I use an AdNW version). I don't agree with a lot of it, but find it funny nonetheless.

OK. I followed @davkol's suggestion. Tried to squeeze the NEC M-Type into a 60% form factor. Yes there were casualties :shock:

I've been thinking about a keyboard like this for some time. Meaning: thinking about it, and then forgetting it for a year :lol: Maybe it's time to really build it.

- symmetrical stagger
- fitting in a 60% case
- no stabs, meaning no keys bigger than 1.75 units
- no vertical keys -> freedom to play with different profiles
- navigation keys
- lots of thumb keys

In other words, I type the Z with the ring finger, the X with the middle finger, and so on. More comfortable, I find.

Wow, this looks a lot like a typewriter that my grandmother had! She used it in the '70s, 80s I guess... I still remember those greenish keys, very dished. I remember they were shiny and felt a bit slippery (ABS, possibly?) Lovely colour. Interested, for nostalgia sake !

Czarek: yes, many promising keyboards take a very long time to materialize..... If at all. Like the Axios , or the Unicomp Space Saver Keyboard ...... Fortunately, I have some nice options already: the GH60 and the Pok3r (might be good enough).

Perhaps I should just start with the Pok3r. See if it suits me. If I need more programmability, I switch to a Falbatech GH60 (PCB or complete keyboard).

Is the Falbatech GH60 fully programmable? Can you assign anything to any key ?

Hi, I'm looking for a 60% that is programmable. I only know of the HHKB (with a retrofitted Teensy). The Pok3r is programmable but not fully, I do not know how easy it is to put a Teensy in it. KBP V60 - same story.

Complicated question. As @davkol said, the standard typing technique is to type the Z with the pinky. An alternative (which I also use) is to type the Z with the ring finger.

I wish I had a browser where I could throttle particular websites’ resource use. The best thing I can think of now is writing a script for your browser that (re)opens a misbehaving tab in a different (that is: external) browser, that you have throttled with niceness values. Not very elegant, I ...

Because of the above, I wonder if a layout with modifiers in 2 columns in the center of the keyboard and the alpha-numeric on each side of the modifiers would be more useful and more comfortable to use.
