The Meta key is a modifier key which usually invokes command shortcuts. It was invented by Les Earnest.
Early keyboards with a meta key include the SAIL keyboard and the Knight keyboard.
On Sun keyboards with USB, it is the same key as Windows or Command on other keyboards.
